+482 It's mind blowing knowing that Romeo and Juliet, one of the greatest love stories of all time, took place in only a week. talk about moving fast amirite?

4 days, actually! Even crazier!

That's cause it's not one of the greatest love stories of all time. I'll get hate for this, but whatevs.

Why do you say that? (I just logged out. lololololol). I don't think that they were in love. It was pitiful lust, in a way. I get the same way when I like a guy. I "love" him, and would do anything.

thats why I don't like it. It's not a love story, and it's hardly a tragedy, it's yet another tale exploiting the exponential growth of human stupidity.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

that's the point, it's supposed to show how foolish young love is that they would go through all that after only knowing each other 4 days.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yes, but then how does that make it a good love story? My point is, that it's not a love story about two people falling in love. It's not a tragedy, because the bad things that happened to them could have easily been avoided. It's simply a play, that can be summed up as "hey look at these two stupid kids!"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That was my point too. . . It's practically a satire(I think that's the right word) on romances

What I find frustrating about it is when people praise it for being such a fantastic love story. I can't say what Shakespeare intended for the message to be or complain that it wasn't written well (though not my favorite style), but some people say it's about 'true love' and I'm like "HA."

I know right, they're just missing the entire point of the book.

I think Juliet was 12 and Romeo was 14 too...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

romeo's age was never mentioned, but it is estimated that he's 19 or 20, because back then, girls married older guys.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I thought Romeo was supposed to be closer to his early to mid 20s, and Juliet was 14.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

She was nearly 14, or 13, and he was about 18. Seems messed up to our society, but age differences weren't such a big deal then.

It's not a great love story. It's a terrible love story, albeit well written. Romeo and Juliet is one of the most stupid things I've ever read.

Romeo and Juliet really is a horrible love story...but it wasn't written to be the greatest love story ever told. Romeo and Juliet was almost revolutionary in that it contained elements of both a comedy and a tragedy. Had Shakespeare ended it after the 3rd act (I believe, it's been a long time. Perhaps the second act, whenever it is they get married), it would have been a very short comedy. Romeo and Juliet basically paved the way for the kind of stories we have in modern theatre, movies, TV shows, etc. The "they-fall-in-love-then-everybody-dies" stories can thank Romeo and Juliet

It wasn't a great love story, it was a story about how unpredictable and rash horny teenagers can be.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes. Romeo and Juliet is the stupidest thing I ever read.
