+314 Disney trying to not be racist: Mulan is Chinese, Belle and Cinderella are European, Pocahantas is Native American, Jasmine is Arabian, Tiana is African, and Ariel is a ginger fish, amirite?

i lol'd at ginger fish. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

OK? I don't quite get the point of this post... Also, you left out two princesses (Snow white and Sleeping Beauty) but I'm not sure you meant to include each one...

(insert+username+here): Walt Disney was a huge racist.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's a really ignorant comment. Trust me, I've done enough research to know he wasn't.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Sure...): Ever seen how he represents the Jews?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, but I've seen several Anti-Nazi cartoons he made.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

For some reason, I found "ginger fish" extremely hilarious.

This should be a t-shirt.

Not all black people are African...

Jasmine=Hottest Disney Princess

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Tiana is American and black, not African.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know I'm a year late, but American is a citizenship. Blacks are ethnically African mostly. I'm Singaporean, but still Chinese.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If she were to have said black, everyone would be all up in arms. She was trying to be politically correct- that's not a bad thing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But it's not correct. African means from Africa, it doesn't mean black. I'm African - white and from Africa.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

whatever she did she couldn't have won. If she said black people would call her racist. When she says african american, you get offended because your white.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't think anyone would've called her racist for saying black.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

and she probably didn't think anyone would have had a problem with her saying African-American.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not the fact that Disney used people of different races, it's how he portrayed them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

All of the above seem to have been portrayed pretty nicely...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah because they're all the heroes/heroines. If you look how the villians are drawn/acted/portrayed you'll see. For example, if you look at Aladdin. He's practically white, whereas Jafar is massively stereotyped.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

true, true. Aladdin is quite white in attitude, not to mention the whole "where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face, its barbaric, but hey! it's home..." thing. That said, Jasmine and Aladdin are both meant to be Arab as well as Jafar and are portrayed fairly well. The same goes for Tiana and the voodoo guy... they're both African American, but the villain is no more stereotypically so. So it goes both ways.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Tiana is NOT a princess. Sorry.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I completely agree. Like bitch please, you arrive to the party how many years late? Don't even try. You can be part of the next generation's princesses.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

She's in the official lineup, along with Rapunzel.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How does this portray Disney not trying to be racist?
