+240 If you try to make a nickname for yourself it never sticks, but when your friend accidentally calls you something random or says your name wrong it's like it was written on your birth certificate, amirite?

Matt.. Matt sticks fairly well

it's cause you made it up. and you have to go around saying "no, don't call me that, call me (nickname!)" and all your friends are thinking "no, that sucks" because there is no story behind it. But when your nickname has some hilarious story, everyone likes to call you by that in the hope that you'll be embarrassed.

I swear to god this was an episode of Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, not saying you stole it, just making an observation,

Making your own nickname is pointless( unless it's along the lines of instead of being called joseph, you tell people to call you joe). Nicknames are supposed to just happen. Example: when I was born my dad was still working as a fireman so he called me proby, meaning a probationary firefighter, the first rank in a fire department. But it wouldn't stick if I asked people to call me proby. It'd just be weird
