Don't compliment someone on what can be artificially created (straight hair, big boobs etc...) compliment them on their eyes, amirite?

OR compliment them on something that they actually had to work for and earn themselves and CANNOT be granted by genetics that they had no control over (E.G You're quite intelligent)

Intelligence is partially genetics. A lot of it does have to do with working hard and applying yourself but most of your capacity for intelligence is genetics.

Nope, it still works. The brain is always functioning, but it'll never be as useful as a brain that someone took the time and effort to fill it with knowledge. Likewise, that tank may still be there and be "full", but it'll never be half as useful as a tank that someone put the time and effort into filling it with water.

It's both nature and nurture - some individuals are naturally very intelligent, and only have to work little to reach their potential, whereas some may be born around average, and learn and study to become more intelligent. And, I agree with the person would said to compliment them on something other than looks, like their achievement or character. Also, for the sake of discussion, looks can be somewhat nurture. Like, obvious we can't help most things - eyes, skin colour, nose shape, but a person with good nutrition and exercise habits will generally look more attractive than a person without them.

Yeah, I've just been reading a lot about social constructs vs biology - that is, is how we are the result of genetics, that we were born this way and couldn't be anything more, or that all babies are born with a clean slate (for the record, it's a bit of both, although some situations more than others, and some individuals more than others). Like, if you have two people with high IQs that have a child, and that child has a high IQ, it is because of genetics - that he inherited it from his parents, or because having smart parents, he would have been brought up listening to them have intelligent conversation, and in a house with lots of books, and other exposure to to cultures, education and sciences.

And with looks, we all know, don't judge people by how they look, but with clothes, you're more likely to think better of someone first impression, straight off the bat, if they wear neat clothes, than just dirty ones they threw on. And, clothes can say a lot about a person - like how they wish to be viewed, like in teenage subcultures like hip hop and goth.

Why can't you just compliment people where they deserve compliments? If someone has nice hair and you like it and they did it well, say so. If they have nice shoes, say so. If they have nice eyes, say so. If they are smart, tell them. Why not compliment someone?
