+186 It's sad that a sweet botfriend is now seen as being cliche, amirite?

I'm going to assume you misspelled "boyfriend" and you're talking about movies more than real life, because it's hard to be "cliche" in real life. So, it's not. You must be thinking of creepy guys that appear to be nice, sweet guys, such as Edward. It's that //only// being sweet is cliche. Yeah, he brings you flowers, he compliments your hair, he thinks your voice is beautiful, and...so what? He thinks you're perfect, but that doesn't define any qualities about him. What is he like? Is he a bit rude, or intelligent, or sly, or paranoid? Cunning, literate, ignorant, prejudice? Educated, poor? It's why nobody cares for Prince Charming because he's so outlandishly dull and unfull of life that all he does in the show or movie is talk about the fair maiden, and the audience is already very well aware that the maiden is fair. Realistic, powerful (to our emotions) boyfriends get angry, and jealous, and unsure, and upset, and elated. They have a history and upbringing and reasons to exist //other// than for their fair maiden. And it's because they have so much emotions that they appear tainted and bitter, when in reality, it's pretty realistic.
