+268 It's weird how it's impolite to mention someone's weight, but it's fine to talk about their height. Your weight is more or less in your control, while you can't choose how tall you're going to be, amirite?

What if rap songs then had "Fatty" instead of "Shawty"...

Yeah, but generally it's better to be skinnier, so if you're talking about someone who is heavier it's obviously embarrassing. But there are a lot of hot short people and a lot of hot tall people, definitely not as much of a correlation between attractiveness and height.

I completely agree, but I think it's more rude to comment on someone's weight because they actually have a bit of control over it.

In many countries, calling somebody "fat" or "ugly" is as normal and acceptable as calling somebody "tall".

Personally I want to punch people when they comment on my height. Really? I'm tall? Thanks dude, I spent 18 years not noticing.

Same, I'm aware I'm a freaking "giant," but just like an overweight person doesn't want to be called fat, I don't want to be called a giant. People don't realize that you can be insecure about your height too.

Glad to know I'm not alone in my irritation at peoples need to reflexively point out my height every time that they meet me. How tall is your tall?l is your tall?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Maybe that's why. People don't like being put on the spot for something that's their fault, so they'd rather someone comment on something that they had no effect on anyway.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's the point... it's more insultive when you mention someone's weight because they can do something about it but won't.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Hahaha yeah I mean you wouldnt talk about weight with a fat person right?? Because thats just mean

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You wouldn't talk about height with a tall person, right? Because that's just mean.
