+1,296 think about it, 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 4! amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 4 12 x 2 x 1 = 4 24 x 1 = 4 Hell no!!!!!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

(Pedro Juan Estaban): you forget factorials

by Anonymous 12 years ago

(Pedro Juan Estaban): Hells to the yes!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

you guys don't do maths do you

by Anonymous 12 years ago

MATH IS TOO MAINSTREAM. I THOUGHT YOU KNEW THAT? (BTW, LOWERCASE LETTERS ARE TOO MAINSTREAM AS WELL)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

salmon are too mainstream

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Non-avian rodents are too mainstream

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I just finished pure math 20 last semester and I was never taught that "!" meant factorial.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

math 20...?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Pure math 20 means the highest math level for grade 11, I think it's a Canadian thing only

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm pretty sure it's only an Alberta thing.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah most other places have 9-12 high schools, so everything has to be done differently.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

My highschool includes 7-12

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Do you live in Alberta? Or did you creep my profile?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Technically, you cannot "creep" somebody's profile. You put the information out there for anyone to see. Hence, you're susceptible to "creeping."

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Touché, but it's still creeping

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I live in Alberta. I did check your profile just to make sure I wasn't completely wrong though.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Canada is weird.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

um yeah I learnt that in sixth grade

by Anonymous 12 years ago

We actually learned in the 6th grade...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

At first I was confused at why this math was so wrong but then I realized you're a hipster.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's not wrong. Ever learned about permutations and combinations?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I am worried that so many people agreed with your comment

by Anonymous 12 years ago

All people who disagreed are wrong. Actually, 4! means 4 factorial, which is the shorthand way to write 4x3x2x1.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ah. I see now.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So is 3! = 3x2x1, and 6! = 6x5x4x3x2x1?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

....am i the only one who has never seen this before :/ and is rather disurbed?!? ...I am ment to be in the top set in my year :/

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm taking Algebra 2, and I've never seen it. I think it's higher level *shrug*

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I taught myself factorials when I was in elementary school 'cause I'm a nerd like that, but I don't think I saw them in a class until Pre Calc

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The concept is easy, but I guess they just bring them in later on.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I learned it in Algebra 2.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Nah, I think it just depends which education district you're in, what school you attend or what teacher you have, 'cause we actually learned about that in grade 7.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I've gone to different American/International schools in a few different countries, and I've yet to learn about it. And my teacher in Algebra 2 really pushed us. But at least I learned about it on amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Don't worry, I've never seen it and I've taken the highest math for my grade level

by Anonymous 12 years ago

question??? what does 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mean??? ;P

by Anonymous 12 years ago

calculator overflow.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

OH...now i get it...clever person you are.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That would make sense, but I've never heard of using an exclamation mark in maths.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Like it said a few comments above, factorials.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I saw that, I'm just saying I've never seen an ! used to show that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Really?? Thats odd...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What symbol do you use? I've never heard of another way of writing factorial.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

We never used any symbols for it. Just ''multiply 4 by its factors''. We learnt the word factors, not factorials, though I'm sure they're the same thing. I suppose it's different to American maths.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They are very not the same thing. Factorial is the product of all the integers from one up to the number. Factors are all the numbers that will divide evenly into a number. Each integer has only one factorial, but most have several factors.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

im in college and i never remember using factorials at all, i even had a beginner math class last semeseter(mind you it was the most basic math) and i dont remember doing that, but then again i didnt show up half the time

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I learned it in 4th grade, man. h keep up.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You aren't alone, we've never been taught that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I came this <...............> close to voting it down...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

@1193967 (B_Diddy): http://ctrlv.in/23863

by Anonymous 12 years ago

oh you silly people who disagreed... :P

Ah, math humor. ♥

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Grr... How do you do the other heart?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Copy and Pasties.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Where's the humor? It's just a factual statement involving maths, that's hardly humorous.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, it was posted in the "jokes" section, so it was intended to be funny. It's true that it's a factual statement, but it's one where unless you catch the fact that the ! is actually factorial, not just a punctuation mark, you won't understand it. But everyone has a different sense of humor.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The ! point doesn't make sense if it's being used as punctuation, although the post is grammatically incorrect either way. I guess I've always thought that jokes that need the amirite at the end to be considered jokes unfunny.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I thought it was amusing when I read this post the YYA vote was 43 and the NW vote was 21. wary 4321

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You were the 24th comment. Also amusing.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Your coment has +24

by Anonymous 12 years ago

NOBODY TOUCH IT

by Anonymous 12 years ago

LOL everyone who said it does not equal 4! has obviously failed grade 12 math hahaha!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

More like grade 8.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

more like grade 8 and reviewed in grade 10.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I didn't see factorials in math class until grade 11. :/

by Anonymous 12 years ago

At my school, courses are more or less electives. There are no designated classes for each grade except for English classes.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

lmfao! grade 12? lol nice school.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I completely forgot factorials. I haven't seen that shit since 7th grade.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Phew... I thought I was the only one.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

OMG I JUST GOT IT and i love it BEST.POST.EVAR. but i think its a repeat but i could care less

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Wait... You could care less? Seems like you couldn't care less..

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You know what, im done, you win.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You put on quite a tussle... But that did make me laugh

by Anonymous 12 years ago

:D

by Anonymous 12 years ago

that was the shortest amirite argument i've ever witnessed.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes i try

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You just made it more confusing by adding, "Think about it" because I thought it was actually something complicated and required brain power.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Me too. It didn't help that I didn't see the '!'. I was doing some insane math, then I read the comments.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This says a lot about the education levels of the amirite users.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What do you mean? The above comments, or the fact that most people got it?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think factorials are one of those things that once you move on to the next grade, you forget all about it...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's not that hard to remember...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I didn't mean forget how to do it, or forget what it means...More like forget it exists. If someone says factorial to you, you should probably remember it, but if you see an exclamation point, you'll think of LA, not math.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I get it!!!!!!!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

omfg I am a retard. That took me ages.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't think it's intelligence level, people just didn't see the !

by Anonymous 12 years ago

In defense of all the people who didn't get it the first time, Hipster didn't use punctuation after saying 4!, so logically, they would think that the ! was the punctuation at the end.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

i don't give a flying fuck

by Anonymous 12 years ago

How about a fuck with both feet firmly on the ground?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes, that was the joke

by Anonymous 12 years ago

At first, I just thought Hipster was excited to tell us that he found out a cool math problem. Then I noticed the "!" was part of the equation.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I can't imagine the percentage of people on Youtube that wouldn't get it...amirite's not that bad, especially since factorials aren't very common until you get into serires.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

OMG this is so dumb. it's like postin 1+1=2 ,amirite? cause 1=1! 2x1=2! 3x2x1=3! it's just posting a basic mathematical function

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, it's making you go "Lol, stupid person" but then go "OOOOOOOOH I C WUT U DID THAR"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

In my opinion, he's right. Granted, it's a bit more advanced mathematically than saying 1+1 =2, but nonetheless it's just posting a mathematical function. By your logic me making a post that says '2+2=10, amirite?', and making my username base4 would be funny, but it wouldn't.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I actually think that would be pretty funny. But I'm a math nerd, so...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

haha love this nerdy post! took me a while to get...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm not very good at math...and I have never seen an '!' being used in my lessons or anything :P So, I didn't understand at all...and after reading the comments I still don't!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I feel like the South African education system has deprived me...I'm an A maths student in grade 11 and i've never seen that. Meep.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I agree, I'm finished with school and never saw that... Or I just forgot if we did I guess. :?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

well it depends on what math you're in. it's usually in late algebra 2, or precal.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

OH I GET IT

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ahaha at first I voted no way but then I was like FACTORIAL!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And Anthony switches things up on us by instead of most favorite reminding us of 8th grade math! Well played Mr.Kuske, well played...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You know that Mr. Kuske got fired right? He was always nice to the smart kids, but to the AVERAGE kids, he was just plain MEAN.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Took me a couple of tries, but I finally got it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm in Pre-Calculus and I have never learned this. Curse you public school system.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

O.o really?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Same here. I'm in calc and trig and never learned this...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

heheh took me a little while to get. very clever.

Dear god, THIS is POTD?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Dear God, they're letting people like YOU on the internet?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Dear God, why won't you answer my questions?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Dear god, that was uncalled for.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I hate how my school finds geometry more important than stuff like this

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Don't worry. We never use this. Unless you want to find how many different combinations x friends could stand in a line (x!).

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Or when doing anything involving probability, or in generalizing the terms of a Taylor Series, or in generalizing differential equations, or in generalizing just about anything else. But if you're a lib. ed. major, go ahead and forget about it, you'll never need it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm a sophomore, right now in algebra 2 and geometry. My school has never taught me about factorials.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

same here. I figured that the "!" sign meant something and I never learned that "!" meant factorial

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Hahha that's funny we just started the probability unit in trig

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I didn't even need to think about this, because I'm pretty used to seeing n!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I realized right away that the "!" stood for something but I couldn't remember what until I saw the comments.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Wow that's weird.... I just learned this in math today

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I just KNEW this crap would come back to haunt me later! Thank god sophomore year was the year I decided grades matter.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

bahaha, this is amazing. :) and people seriously haven't heard of factorials? o: i learned them in algebra 2 as a sophomore.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I love how I learned this today and was still confused by it. I thought the OP was just excited about it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I fucking hate math.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Damn, I haven't used factorials in a while... shows how much I need to review for math !

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Don't forget Sigma Notation!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

just because people dont know this doesnt mean they are stupid. maybe we use our minds for shit that matters...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Knowing math kinda sorta matters.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

In their defense it's not like not knowing factorials will hurt you..you can just write them out.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Until your math teacher tells you to find 2681497468!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Find it? Not possible. There are only two ways to represent that number. The first is what you typed, the seconds is /CALCULATOR OVERLOAD/

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You can find it by hand...it would just take a helluva long time.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No you can't. To write it out long hand would take orders of magnitude more paper than has ever existed. I can tell you it will end in well over 134 MILLION zeros (the number of zeros is possible to find), but the numbers before that would not be possible to work out.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You know sometimes I learn more from posts on here than I do at school :P

by Anonymous 12 years ago

i still dont get it... but im in 6th grade so ill probably come back on this when im in 8th grade and go "ooooh i get it!"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Of course, you're only eleven.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

(It's kinda funny because it says this -was- POTD on Apr27, and it's only Apr26 where I am... I feel like a time traveller)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It took me forever to get it and then as I was just about to move on, i noticed the ! exclamation point at the end. 8th grade math... you make me feel witty.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Even when your having the best of times on the computer school (Math) always seems to get ya...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

its 24... idgi...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

please refer to the 200 comments above

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ohhhhhh. Factorials. Got it. Oh well. How do I undo this now? Anyway, they taught us that in like 6th grade.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

simple math guys. its simple math.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Factorials!!!! took me a while to get it lol

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I totally didnt read that as a factorial, but instead read it as "FOUR TIMES THREE TIMES TWO TIMES ONE EQUALS 4!"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

and they say you'll never use this in real life...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Really now? Factorials are middle school math. At first, I wondered why it was on this site...it's hardly funny, and if everyone posted math problems on this site, it would be drab. Now I know that at least 160 people don't know their basic math!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Different counties have different standards. In some counties, you don't need to learn factorials at all.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I was doing factorials all day and I can't believe I took about 2 minutes to understand this post.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

im in grade 11, i can vouch for those who didnt know "!" meant factorial, although i did learn it outside of school (dont ask)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Factorials can smd.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

(Taja_Rage):Word. I've never used it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

i didnt get it. but im only in the 8th grade d: soo yeuh (:

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I can tell by your spelling and grammar.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm in 7th grade, and I already learned this.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You're supposed to learn factorials in Algebra 2

by Anonymous 12 years ago

THIS IS MADNESS!?!!?? Why does 1!=1 then????

by Anonymous 12 years ago

3! = 3x2x1 2! = 2x1 1! = 1 1 is multiplied by every positive number lower than 1, as 3 is multiplied by every positive number lower than 3.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

every positiver whole number

by Anonymous 12 years ago

In layman's terms, preferably, can someone smart tell me how 0! = 1? 'CAUSE I'VE BEEN TRYNA WORK IT OUT OHHHHH

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not to brag or anything but I learned this in 4th grade... Maybe it is just that you guys don't remember this, and no I am not asian!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Dear Everyone above, I would just like to say that NONE CARES when the hell you learned the factorials Sincerly, The rest of us here

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's first time I see someone use a DBPB format without actually stealing a DBPB post... Can't say if it's a good thing or not.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's a good thing ... trust me ;)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's a bad thing. You have never had to write a letter before?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I kind of care. I don't want to be the only dumb one here.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

well you can re-read the comments and then think it in your head instead of me getting 30,000 notification "i learned it in 5th grade" "well i learned it in 6th" "well i learned it in 7th grade" Its annoying

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You only got two replies. Don't be nasty only because I disagree with you.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

no i favorited the post so i got a bunch of things saying people made comments... i apologize for being a online bitch :P will you accept my apology?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I should say sorry! I misunderstood XD

by Anonymous 12 years ago

ahaha well thats okay :P lol no problem :P

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Okay I don't see why this post is good? It's just factorial o.O It equals 4! So what?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It looks like he is exclaiming 4, not saying 4!. I think you didn't even get it and are just tring to act smart.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah I understood that but I don't find it funny...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

no one ever said it was supposed to be funny loser

by Anonymous 12 years ago

POTDs are usually clever or funny in some way. I don't think this one is good enough, that's all.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

well lately, it's been so that the posts that get the most favorites one day becomes the POTD the next day.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

hahahaha, clever! C x L x E x V x E x R

by Anonymous 12 years ago

More like CL(E^2)VR

by Anonymous 12 years ago

factorials...thats a knee-slapper

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I got this because me and my friend used to pass notes on my graphing calculator, and my friend used an exclamation point, which blew my mind until it was explained to me.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh, sorry then!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

in south african schools you just get the subject 'maths'.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I read this post the day it was POTD, and it really frustrated me because I didn't know what factorials were. When I learned them today in math class, I was like omg I get this post now!

by Anonymous 12 years ago
