+347 You hate, yet love, the feeling of trying not to laugh or smile at something funny that occurred as you were crying, amirite?

I could never quite understand this: you're crying, but you don't want to laugh. So, that evidently means that you WANT to be sad, which makes no sense. This also happens with certain people who are angry: try to make them laugh and they visibly try to suppress laughter. Why? Do some people enjoy the experience of negative emotions?

I don't think they want it to seem like the cause of them crying was so insignificant that it could be overcome by a simple joke.
