+228 if we call our parents by "mom, & dad" why don't we call our siblings by "brother or sister?", amirite?

Only Buster from Arrested Development would disagree with this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eo1pkHKHuts

Well...in Fullmetal Alchemist Al calls Ed 'brother' all the time. I don't think I've ever heard Al call him Ed. But since not everyone is as big of a geek as me... I do call my sister 'sister' sometimes. Just not when my older sister is home as well, as that would be very confusing. But that is something to think about...

In a lot of Asian cultures, you actually DO call your sisters and brothers "sister" or "brother"

Very true. Except then it gets into little sister and big sister and little brother and big brother and nicknames and yadda yadda yadda. :)

Calling mom and dad "mom" and "dad" are symbols of respect, which is why calling them by their first names is so often frowned upon. With brothers and sisters, however, they haven't earned your respect and likely never will, which is why we don't refer to them as their appropriated titles.

I was thinking about that sort of thing, but in a different sense. Why do we call our aunts and uncles 'Aunt(ie)' (Bertha) or 'Uncle' (Bob) and they don't call us 'Niece' (Petal) or 'Nephew' (Rickey)?

I think its a sign of respect for your parents. No one really has respect for their siblings...

My teacher gets mad when I call her teacher.

I think it's a 'respect you elders' kinda thing.

My cousin and I call one another Dadbroson, although technically from my perspective that should be 'Dadsisson'
