Adam and Eve really screwed things up, amirite?

You should realize that in the garden of eden, they did not have the ability to procreate, therefore without the fall, none of us would exist.

I agree

But they were told to be fruitful and fill the earth before they sinned, so they did have that ability.

They were told to be fruitful and fill the earth, which is why they HAD to sin, because they couldn't reproduce in the garden.
Besides, think about it: God knows everything. He KNEW Adam and Eve would fall. He PLANNED for it to happen. Also, to be the mother and father of the entire human race is a pretty big responsibility. God knew what it would entail. Do you really think he would have chosen idiots to do the job?

First of all, what makes you think they couldn't reproduce in the garden? If God told them to have children while they were in the garden, then he obviously would have given them the ability to fulfill that – it wouldn’t make sense not to.
Second of all, if it was God’s plan for Adam and Eve to sin, what kind of person would that make him? It is neither just nor loving to condemn someone for doing something you planned for them to do. He warned Adam and Eve against eating from the tree, and they chose to disobey him. They, like us, had free will; the fact that they were perfect does not change that. And third, if their sin was planned by God, it would mean God deliberately set in motion all the wickedness created in human history, making him the direct source of all wars, crime, immorality, etc., which is clearly in direct conflict with his personality.

Adam and Eve are not condemned. Christ atoned for your sins, my sins, their sins (which, incidentally, we are not held accountable for.) And yes, God did set in motion adversity on this Earth. Of course. That was part of the plan too. We were put here to be tested, to see if we could rise above the evil in the world, serve others, be good people. There would be no test if there was no adversity. There would be no point in us being here. It is not at all in conflict with His personality.

why did they screw things up?
by Anonymous14 years ago
Because if it wasn't for them, we'd all be perfect human beings with none of the sickness and death and all around bad things in the world today.
by Anonymous14 years ago
Yeah, but if the world was perfect, it would be boring.
by Anonymous14 years ago
I don't think it would be boring at all! Just think of all the things you've wanted to do in your life but are unable to do for whatever reason; all of a sudden, infinite possibilities are opened up due to lack of time/physical limitations.
