Another overrated character... the only reason people rave over him is because the guy died, he was good but not to the point where people are treating him like the best thing since sliced bread.

It isn't actually Sparrow the character himself that is amazing, in my opinion, it's the life, personality, and charisma that Johnny Depp gave him that's so captivating.
