+387 In Libya they riot over an unfair government. In Canada they riot over hockey. Libya needs to get their priorities straight, amirite?

For once in my life, I am ashamed to be Canadian.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Me too.

Same. Apparently there was 9 stabbings or something, and the university my sister was going to go to almost got set on fire, shop windows were broken. And why? We lost a hockey game. Like I can understand being sad about loosing, but seriously, stabbing and vandalizing property is taking it too far

*Losing

The riots weren't actually started over the hockey game. They were started by an anarchist group, many of whom brought masks and gasoline to the game and planned to riot whether Vancouver won or not. They chose to do it at the hockey game because the crowds make it easier to cause mayhem without being identified.

I heard about that too after making the post above. Apparently there was people from the Al Kaida group (Ok, I know it's spelled wrong but I have no idea how to spell it), and apparently there was people there who weren't allowed to cross the border during the Olympics.

no stabbings, this is false

by Anonymous 11 years ago

wow way to be patriotic, for your information a lot of CANADIANS came back to downtown to clean up the mess those idiots made.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Apparently someone pushed a Boston fan off a bridge, taking a life over something so minor...

I was going to go downtown that day! Thank God I didn't. Anyway, it is true that I am ashamed of how people in downtown Vancouver acted. But I wouldn't go as far to say that I am ashamed to be Canadian because what happened in Vancouver doesn't represent how all of Canada would react! Sadly, if you get an anxious, angry, intoxicated crowd of thousands together, no matter the country/ province or even social class, shit is going to go down!

Canada is starting to become more like America. Stupid and violent. Amirite?

Those people weren't rioting because of the game, they were rioting for their entertainment. win or lose, they were prepared to riot.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

and most of the rioters were either high or drunk

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Hmm, last time I heard of a Canadian riot was a long time ago (of course, I don't exactly keep track). It was, of course, over hockey, but there was only a few hundred canadian dollars of damage. Nice to see they're improving.

Hockey has the most rowdy fans out of any sport

Hi, Vancouverite here. And I feel so awful for this happening. The police are looking for the people who have done it, and a lot of people went to go help with the cleanup. Please don't judge us on this :(

I'm Canadian, and I don't really care. It was in Vancouver. It's not like everyone in Canada destroyed shit.

This was my 25,000th YYA. Yeah, you should feel special.

Too bad we were not fighting Canadian terrorists they would be easier to deal with.
