+210 You don't become a man when you turn 18, or get a car, or hit puberty, or lose your virginity. You become a man when you start to respect women. amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

No, it's after you complete your freshman initiation and get hazed and/or suffer other mental trauma.

Hahaha no still wrong. Respecting women doesn't mean you 'become a man', it means you're just a regular person who isn't a total doucheface.

I sort of agree. As an adult I think a man should should respect women (and a woman should respect men in the same way), but I do think there's more to being an adult than that. I do, however, completely agree with all the things that you said do NOT make you an adult.

You're a man when you start to make mature decisions and respect everyone, men AND women.

If you're an adult human male then you're a man

How is this positive...? no

If the genders were reversed in this post it would be downvoted to hell. Typical amirite double standard. Tune in tomorrow for the new episode of "if whites do __ it's racist, if blacks do it it's all right" feauriring a special guest appearance of "telling someone they're skinny is okay, why is telling someone they're fat mean?"

But does a woman only become a woman when she starts respecting men? Of course not, because it's only necessary that men be called out for the minority of them who don't treat women right. There are women who don't respect men, but no one will say anything about them.

The way our society is set up men are not expected to respect women. Thus being a man and admitting that one respects women is pretty tough. However I think we should strive to be mature adults as we grow older, not being a "man" or "woman." We should respect EVERYONE. Men, women, and gender-queers alike.

Well what are all grown men that don't respect women then? Woodland creatures? They're men. Who you are is determined by how you treat others, but not to the extent that your growth is stinted, and it's sort of ridiculous to suggest such a thing.

Technically speaking you become a man when you have male genitalia and have completed the stages of childhood and puberty and have entered into adulthood

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You become a //mature adult// when you respect //everyone//.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I saw something on Cracked that said you become an adult when you stop depending on other people to take care of you and people can start depending on you. I quite liked that, and I think it applies to both men/boys and women/girls.

I'll respect people who earn my respect, man or woman.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It sounds so wrong when you say the same thing about becoming a woman, I've realized.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I disagree. Respecting women isn't supposed to be this great epiphany, you're supposed to respect whatever gender. A man grows up... when he grows up. No one has a right to define what masculinity is, because it's different for everyone. I will say, the thought of masculinity revolving around women is a bit... weird.
