+326 It's strange how you'd never point at a squirrel and say, "Look at that mammal", but we have no problem with referring to things as 'birds' and 'fish', amirite?

"Birds" and "fish" are very common general terms. Technically they are both really Aves and Reptiles. So it would be even stranger if we were to call them that all the time.

Well for me when it comes to fish and snakes, I call them by their species of fish or snake. Ex: carp, bass, viper, python, etc.

I call birds by their name unless I don't know what it is.
