+279 Sometimes, it's awkward when people compliment you and then put down themselves. "Wow, you're so pretty! Like, look at me, I'm ugly." "You're super smart! I'm so dumb!!" What are you supposed to say to that? Amirite?

''You sure are'' is not the best answer.

"You're not stupid, and I'm not smart". Which is a total lie.

"Yeah... that must really suck..." lol no, but seriously- that's usually when I say "Oh don't say that!" or "Oh come on, no you aren't" ...and then change the subject.

There's usually just a big awkward pause before the subject is changed.

Certainly not the way I voted on this post...

'Yes, you are ugly, stop fishing for compliments.

if its true, i just kind of shrug and put an "oh well" expression on my face.

"OMG, you're so lucky you're smart. I'm so stupid." Uh, no, while you were getting stoned last night I was busy studying. Contrary to popular belief, I wasn't born with the periodic table engrained in my mind.

I hate when people use the word "lucky" for something that was earned. Pet peeve.

Agreed.

Normal compliments make me feel uncomfortable anyway. So either way, I just stare at them until they stop or I walk away with a pained expression. It's like yeah, I'm smart. That's nothing I did. Yeah, my exterior is pleasing, now, when I'm young. How is that in anyway a positive thing about who I am? Compliments about achievements make a lot more sense to me than compliments about my DNA.
