+212 If toilets flush clockwise in the northern hemisphere and anti-clockwise in the southern hemisphere, which direction would a toilet on the equator flush, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, it depends. If you're on the equator, you will only be exactly in the middle two days a year (the spring and fall equinox I think). Other than that, it would flush clockwise for half the year and counterclockwise for the other half.

It could be a game. "Hey Mom! I bet you 20 bucks it spins clockwise today!" "Bullshit. It won't spin clockwise til next week!"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, I think since the equator is always perpendicular from the axis the earth spins on, the time of year matters. (Where the sun is relative to the earth's tilt or the earth's rotation around the sun don't matter, it's the earth's spin that matters.) Of course, the idea that the coriolis effect is strong enough to effect toilets flushing is also a myth...

I'm still amazed how this shit happens bro...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That coriolis effect is a bitch, right?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Counterclockwise?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

OP means toilets from the southern hemisphere act openly belligerent towards toilets from the northern hemisphere.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Counterclockwise as in the opposite of clockwise...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah. I was saying that it's counterclockwise instead of anticlockwise.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Anti-clockwise.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Counterclockwise is definitely used in america and I believe cananda as well, but I've heard anti-clockwise instead from people living elsewhere

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ah, okay. :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's easy. It would't spin at all. Instead it would drop straight down. :1

Duckshirt is correct I'm afraid. Saw a thing about it where they got people to send in vids from all around the world and it's totally random.

Nowadays, the toilets have a built in direction to force the water down, so it would only depend on the brand/model

by Anonymous 12 years ago

contrary to popular belief, the location of the toilet actually has no effect on the way it flushes....it's just the way it's made that makes the water go in a different direction
