+133 Sure, Cars 2 was hardly an emotional triumph, but it wasn't meant to be. Cars 2 was made to be a fun, exciting animated summer blockbuster and in that it succeeded greatly. The critics should ease up, amirite?

Their job is to critique the film, sooo yeah...

Critics called it "tedious" and "boring" and a "chore to watch". I.e., not exciting. I don't see how your opinion is any more valid than theirs in this case.

Were they watching the same movie I saw? Because I was laughing and on the edge of my seat throughout.

Maybe it's just because Pixar really brings out the little kid in me, but I was thouroughly entertained both times I saw it in theaters. And besides, I was reading the reviews on RT and the biggest complaint I saw was that C2 wasn't up to the standards set by the likes of Up, Wall-e, and TS3. This post was really just in rebuttal to that.

I call it a freaking marketing ploy. They made that movie to sell more toys.

I firmly disagree with this. I simply have too much faith in Disney/Pixar to believe it. Personally, I think Lasseter made this movie because he honestly just likes cars, Larry the Cable Guy, and making movies.

Well said. I adore Cars and Pixar, and was heartbroken to hear that they were getting such bad reviews. I thought it was fun and exciting, and I'm positive the only reason critics were calling it boring is because they expected it to be beforehand. And while they did primarily make a sequel to Cars because it was such a success with little boys in the merchandise department, if it was *just* a "marketing ploy" like Aeschines said, it would have been sloppily put together. Did you see how much time and heart and cleverness was put into the scenes abroad? Pixar is not a corporate monster, they are a well-meaning company. Sure, they care about money (every company does), but they realize there are more important things. And plus, after the tearjerker that was Toy Story 3, I think it was a relief for them to put out a light-hearted comedy flick.

Exactly! If John Lassester and the Pixar team want to kick their heels up and just make something kind of silly and light-hearted, then let them! In my opinion Cars 2 is just a buffer between their dramatic movies, like TS3 and Brave that's coming out net year.

I think it's funny how people over-analyze children's movies. I mean, the kids who watch it don't care if the movie was an emotional triumph or whatever.
