-332 Why do people make such a big deal about people who burn the American flag? It's just cloth, and it doesn't make them disrespectful or unpatriotic, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why do you swear on a bible? It's just a tree?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's not exactly what I would call patriotic, but people make way to big of a deal about it. And swearing on a bible is no different then if I did go outside and swear on a tree.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I totally agree with this, especially the bible. If I don't even believe in the bible, what significance does swearing on it have?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

About as much as swearing on a tree, or less depending on the person.

There was a comment about this yesterday - that it's not just a cloth, it has symbolism, like if someone painted a giant swastika on a wall, it's not just paint on a wall, it means something.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I feel honoured you remember my comment goo ...Unless there was a nearly identical one that you're talking about, posted by someone else. In which case I'd feel rather stupid wary

I'm Canadian and even I think burning the American flag is unpatriotic.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Duh, Canada's part of the US.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You have got to be kidding. no

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I was.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh, thought you were serious. Truce? :D

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah I was just making a joke about our hat.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why the hate? I thought it was funny.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Didn't know it was a joke :P

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Sarcasm is a dying art...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Um... it is.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why is it just America you're referencing? It's disrespectful to burn ANY country's flag.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh, okay then. In that case I can burn a picture of you, and then I can give you a drawing of me blowing up your car, and after that I can sketch me stealing your dog and holding him for ransom. I know you won't call the police because I haven't actually touched you, it was just symbolism, like what the flag stands for.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You took the words right out of my mouth :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What do athiests swear on in court?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Origin Of Species and/or The God Delusion

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh, okay thanks.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why is this so different than the cut the flag post? I mean, I wouldn't do it if there was nothing in it for me....but really I don't care what happens.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The American flag is a SYMBOL of this amazing country. It's a symbol of our freedom, the freedom that gives you the right to burn a flag, even though you shouldn't. It's VERY disrespectful and unpatriotic. And why would you want to burn a flag anyway? If You don't like this country, leave it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

While I agree on the whole it's symbolic of our freedom thing. It's a flag. We'll always have them, even if some people decide to burn them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, you're SUPPOSED to burn it when it gets old. That's how you get rid of it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

yeah, the same way you're supposed to burn a person's body (in some cultures). it shows respect. burning it out of anger or to make a statement against america is a completely different thing. like the difference between cremation & just setting someone a fire.
