-186 When the stewardess tells everyone to turn off their electronic devices, you don't actually turn it off, you just put it away, amirite?

Don't really know why this post has more No Ways than YYAs. Everyone I know does this.

Ever since the episode of the Simpsons when they were going to Japan, I always turned off my cellphone.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I just put it on airplane mode and hide my earphones under my hair and jacket. No one notices.

If you dont turn it off you could interfere with the planes controls and send it crashing to the ground... thats why they tell you to turn it off...

It's a safety precaution. If you don't turn off your cell phone it can interfere with air traffic control and possibly crash the plane. The other electronics have to be off so that if something goes wrong during takeoff and landing (the most dangerous parts of the entire flight) you won't get in people's way who are trying to get the poop out of the flaming plane while you try to put your laptop on sleep mode.

I find it quite funny how gullible people really are. It has been proven through multiple tests (including Mythbusters) that the signals sent and received from cell phones, laptops, etc. do NOT interfere with the signals sent back and forth between the airplane and the control towers. People just thought that it MIGHT interfere, so they started telling everyone to turn stuff off as a safety precaution. I don't know why they still tell people this, but it cannot cause any problems.

haha I don't even put my electronics away. the fact that they tell you to is pointless.

I once had to sit in the cockpit and the pilots didn't switch their phones off. I can't be too sure but I think they were downloading an app for their ipads too!

I turn it off... I don't want to be the blame if something happens: "47 innocent people died in this plane crash al because MonkeyBubbleWrap sent a text to his mom that messed with the flight equipment."

I kinda like turning off my phone and stuff for the ride. Its a nice break from constantly texting and I like when I fly alone that I don't have to talk to anyone unless I want to.

Lawl when I was 9, I had my book closed on my lap, and the old grouchy, bitchy stewardess comes by and complains "HOW MANY ANNOUNCEMENTS DOES IT TAKE FOR YOU TO PUT IT AWAY?!" getting yelled at is so much worse when your younger cuz it sticks with you
