+76 Australians: it's weird to hear people in other countries complaining about lack of tips when it's pretty rare to happen at all here. amirite?

The thing in america is that waiters are given reduced pay with the expectation that they will receive tips to compensate. Thus, in america, if you do not tip, you are basically underpaying your waiter. In essence, it is a way to make your meal look 15% cheaper than it actually will be.

Also, our federal minimum wage is the same for part-time and full-time employees at $7.25/hr USD (about the same in AUSD)

We always tip when we're at a restaurant, but it's not necessary like it is in America. The minimum wage in NZ is $13 with is roughly $10.85 USD so I guess it's not as important.
