+121 The reason that "the movie is never as good as the book" is because everyone imagines the book differently. Even in the description of the main character, everyone thinks of the aspects in a different light which makes it impossible to make the movie "as good as the book" because you would have to combine everyone's imagination together. amirite?

in other words, STFU about "the movie sucks but the books are great" ... Im looking at you, HP fans.

You know, I honestly don't hear many Harry Potter fans complain about the movies being //bad//. Their main complaint is that it leaves out so much (which it honestly kind of has to since the books are so long, but still).

Also they can't fit all the details from the book into the movie.

It would be like a 10 hour movie

While that's mostly true, the are some movies which are way better than the books they were based on: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins, Gone with the Wind, and James Bond are all way better as movies.

It's also a case of not being able to completely portray each character's thoughts in a movie, especially if the book is from that character's point of view. Some books rely on the thoughts of the characters for most of the plot, and would not be very good movies.

I don't think that's the reason at all. I would never expect everything to be shown as it was in my imagination. I would, however, expect the plot to at least stay the same and for the characters to look even remotely as they were described in the book, and for the movie to have good actors. There are books where I have enjoyed the movie, even if it was not shown how I imagined. It's about the movie staying true to the book and not just trying to make money by cutting huge corners.

I totally agree. It's not a personal "my view is best" kind of thing. It's that Hollywood hardly ever leaves the plot the same. Also, if the characters are described as looking a certain way and they don't, im not upset because I imagined differently, but because the author includes details like that for a purpose.

Yeah, I think you made my point clearer.

So is that why Eragon sucked as a movie?
