It's amazing how oposible thumbs is the reason why we have the luxury to live like this, amirite?

Not quite. They were very important to the development of humans today, but they're not THE reason. Other animals have oposible thumbs (monkeys, hamsters...) too. I feel it was mostly the intelligence, and our mind could have worked itself a way to allow us to have a desire for luxury without them.
