I read somewhere that it's ridiculously hard to fire a teacher.

im pretty sure it's because the teachers unions have so much power. its insane.

The teachers union has a thing called "tenure" which means that it is nigh impossible to higher teachers that have been teaching for awhile. Often times, the younger, brighter and more driven teachers are put out of a job because of the teachers union.

Indeed. My cousin started her first year of teaching this year and it pisses her off how hard she works but some of the older teachers hardly lift a finger.

I think it's a better idea to get rid of the old teachers, since they've run out of the enthusiasm. But, that won't change... /:
