+39 The difference between having sex and making love is the fluidity of movement. Having sex is an ungraceful act while making love is an effortlessly smooth dance, amirite?

Having sex is fun. Making love ends in heartbreak.

I was replacing the popular opinion that the difference between having sex and making love is based on the level of emotional attachment.

I'm pissed off that I clicked on this post because it had more than 20 comments, and it was mostly that Virgin/VirginSlayer crap. Also, anyone who thinks that every time they have sex will be smooth, effortless and gracefull, and if it isn't it's somehow something less/more than sex, is definitely a virgin.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

OP here. All the post is saying that the term "making love" is a measure of skill and experience, not emotional attachment and meaning. It's similar to the difference between a amateur dancing at a club and a ballet dancer performing at a recital. They are essentially doing the same actions, but the difference is apparent.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I disagree, in that I don't think a sex session that was especially good, or skillfull, deserves a different name.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't think it deserves a different name either. The term already exists; I'm just shedding a different meaning on it because I disagree with its current implication that sex with someone you have an emotional attachment with is superior to sex sans attachment.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Hmmm ... I've never heard it used in such a way - I guess because when I'm not talking about sex is laymen's terms ("shag" "root") I use more academic than flowery - I never really used the phrase "making love". But I still disagree with "Having sex is an ungraceful act while making love is an effortlessly smooth dance" I see them both as sex. Sex can be graceful, or ungraceful, or anywhere along the lines of the "good sex" "bad sex" dichotomy. Also, I don't see it as having a connection with emotional attachment - you can have awkward sex, ungraceful sex, a quick shag before you have to go to work, etc., with your significant other whom you've been with for ages.

My girlfriend has vaginismus. Sex will never be smooth or effortless for her.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I absolutely hate the term "make love" so I'll never use it to describe //anything.//

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I prefer to think that sex is about the feeling and making love is about the feelings you have for that person.
