+648 You shouldn't have to go to school the day after you have had a family member pass away, amirite?

When my grandma died the school expected me to be there the next day because my mom took mr out of school the day before. It was not a pretty picture when they said that to my mom.

You don't, do you? In my school you can take off from a day to a week (maybe more?), and it's a completely excused absence.

...just say you were sick....not that big of a deal (the skipping not the family member)

With my school, it's all right if you take a few days off. And then, when you come back, all the teachers are really sympathetic and give extensions. It seems kind of awful to get in trouble for mourning...

Well I just lost my grandpa on Sunday and I had to go to school the day after. I still have to go to school on the day of the funeral or memorial really, but still. I can't miss any days of school or else I'll have to take every semester test.

I'm sorry for your loss. And I can't believe they're making you go even on the day of the funeral. That sucks.

At my school, death of an immediate family member is an excused absence.

I swear they're not letting me stay home cause they hate me and like to see me suffer.

That's odd. My school gets 5 days for loss in the states and almost two weeks for international loss. Anyways, I'm sorry for your loss :(

Homeschool ftw

Sorry for your loss. Anyways, it depends how close they were to you. If they're in your immediate family, then obviously no, you shouldn't have to. If it it your great uncle or another relative you barely knew, you should definitely go to school. Anywhere in between is debatable depends on how close you were and how you handle emotional trauma.

I had to take the day off for my dog. Pets are family members, too. It's all reasonable.
