+286 It kind of bothers you that secant is the reciprocal of cosine and cosecant is the reciprocal of sine when cotangent and tangent are reciprocals, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It should be sine and cosine, tangent and cotangent, and secant and cosecant in my opinion.

It took me a second to realize what you were talking about, because I hardly ever see the whole words written out, as opposed to just the abbreviations.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Doesn't your teacher/classmates/you say the whole word when talking about it though? Like when your teacher explained it?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They do, but when I saw them written out, I didn't recognize them.

*sigh* oh pre-calc *random flashback to sophomore year*

My brain just exploded from reading terms I haven't needed to think about since I left that math class almost 10 years ago....

You're 27?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Wut.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Stop making me remember math.

I always think sine and secant are reciprocals, and that cosine and cosecant are reciprocals. But if it was sin and cos, sec and csc, and tan and cot, that'd be even easier.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I literally memorized them by saying to myself "The reciprocals of sin and cos are opposite than what they should be."

Every trig function has their co-partner this way.

Is it wrong that I spell sec as sex?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The other day I was doing my homework and instead of "sec x" I wrote "sex c" on accident.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes, that always happens to me. Other students will often read my work and say SEX-C? sexy?

...is there some inside joke here or are we really arguing about math...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I was just thinking that yesterday!! It's so frustrating!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

oh dear god...my head hurts >.<

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ahaha that sounds hard. In England most people opt to drop maths before it gets this hard. I feel bad for you...
