not to be a total dick but that wouldn't work cause color blind people wouldn't be able to tell the difference. When there is 3 lights they can tell which one is on, but with one they would be fucked

It would be a lot more expensive to have a single light changing colour because the light shade (green, red or orange) would need to mechanically swap and move over the bulb every minute or so. I can just see the maintenance now.

It would be easier to just have one light, and then turn it on for STOP, turn it off for GO, and make it flash on and off for whatever's in between.

Actually, I think they should have four lights. Another amber one to tell you when its almost time to go, so that those who use their phones at stop lights don't cause a jam. I know you're not supposed to use your phone at a stop light, but its not possible to enforce, so might as well make it safer.

In Russia, instead of going green, yellow, red, green, yellow, red, it goes green, yellow, red, yellow, green etc.

In Shanghai, they have regular stoplights like they do in America, but next to it they also have digital numbers that count down how much longer there is until a green light or a red light.
