+184 It seems like sometimes taking care of animals has reached an extreme. For example, New Zealand recently spent over $30 000 taking care of a stray penguin, and releasing it back into the wild only for it to be eaten by an orca whale. They could have spent a lot less money, and focus on HUMANS that have the same problems instead. amirite?

By the way, I am not saying we should not care about animals, but you need to make a cost benefit analysis of spending 30K on one bird.

I didn't know being eaten by orca's was a human problem....

by Anonymous 12 years ago

My brother was eaten by a humpback whale, my grandfather was eaten by a blue whale, and my cousin was eaten by a beluga whale. Sooo, nope! I don't know anyone who has had issues with orca whales.

SOMEBODY's a puffin...

When people say things like this is just proves why animals are better than people.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So you'd rather spend thirty thousand dollars on a penguin than thirty thousand on some starving, swollen bellied, homeless child. Right. Humans are indeed horrible. un

I never said that. I agree it's nuts to spend $30k on one penguin. What I'm saying is, humans are no better than animals and when humans act like they're amazing and animals suck, it shows why animals are better.

The post didn't say that animals suck. And humans are valued above animals because we ARE humans. If it came between saving a baby and a puppy, the baby is always going to be saved. Human life is more precious.

I doubt we're going to come to an agreement about this post. I think the puppy's life is just as important as the baby's.

(silvershadow6):I wonder if there is an Uncle Tom like insult for people like this? Oh I got one, Mowgli.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Are you aware that people ARE animals?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Wait, I don't understand what I said that offended you so greatly.

Semi-unrelaterd fact: Orcas are more closely related the dolphins than whales. They sometimes eat whales though. (whale-killer=/=killer whale.)

A lot of the money used was donations though and there's actually a possibility that it wasn't eaten http://www.stuff.co.nz/environment/5617020/Hope-yet-for-Happy-Feet-fans
