+295 The police definitely didn't have to shoot and kill all of the animals that escaped in Zanesville, Ohio. They should have used non-lethal methods to recapture them, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Except no.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Alright, why is that?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Watch CNN.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

CNN is talking about "Joey quits".

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well it was explained why they had to kill them all.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

He gave a shoot to kill order. Not even an attempt to save them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That man has worked with and saved animals for years. You really think he wanted those animals dead? And how would you react to wild animals running around?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What man? I'm talking about the sheriff.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Again. What was he supposed to do? Wild animals were loose and when tranquilizers are used they don't work instantly. Plus, imagine how difficult it would have been to tranq all of them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm not saying they should have tranquilized all of them, but some. And tranquilizers work quick enough that they could have used them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Being from Ohio I know a bit more about the situation. 25 of the Animals were STILL on the property when they were shot-just out of there cages. They could have secured the perimeter of the property. As soon as the cops showed up they started shooting. The cop sounds like a stupid redneck, now hes gettin his fame. There is a lot more that they could have tried before shooting, shooting should be last resort

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Thank you.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You honestly think that if you were faced with wild animals that you would be more concerned with the lives of them over the lives of human beings? As terrible as the whole situation was, the man did the right thing.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The lives of animals are just as important as human beings. We are no better. and if the animals were still on the property, yes, they could have been saved.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If you had to choose between the life of your mother and your pet, you would say both would be equally bad?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm totally the worst person to ask that. Loosing my cat would be way worse that loosing my mother. But in other situations, No, I don't think many people would want to loose their mothers. But some of these animals that died are endangered. People are not endangered. And no that doesn't mean it's okay to kill them. But more effort should have been put into saving the animals.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I agree, just not that we are equal. But i guess that's another discussion in itself.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Having to act quick doesn't give much time to think about what the best decision might be.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

In an ideal world...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yea, I thought that too. They could've used tranquilizers or something. But I guess they did what they had to to keep people safe. I'd be pissed if I was just chilling at my bus stop and I got mauled by a bear.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They tried to tranquilize them but I guess one attacked the people doing it and there was really no choice...at least, that's what I heard. And I heard the man who owned the animals basically went insane and set all of the animals free before offing himself, so he probably didn't care too much for the animals. Once again, not sure how valid my info is but that's what I heard people say here and we're fairly close to Zanesville.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Out of all of those animals, I doubt that every single one attacked when they tried to tranquilize them. But the sheriff gave a "shoot to kill" order. Not even giving them a chance. According to the internet and the news on TV.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, no, I doubt that as well. I'm all for not killing innocent animals like that and I think it's horrible but at the same time I can see why they're doing it. I'm not so sure that over half of the animals that got loose that were killed really had to die; I'm sure that they could've tranquilized some of them, but what's done is done, unfortunately.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Im from Ohio and 25 of the animals that were shot were still on the property when they did it. 18 Bengal tigers died-there are only about 3000 left. You would have to kill 42 million humans to decrease our population the same that they decreased the tiger population in a day-sounds like genocide to me. Now if the owner was abusive like some claim, then I can see how the animals would be aggressive towards humans-but who knows. I dont think they tried hard enough.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And Im sorry but that fucking cop seemed retared: "Erm these are like animals you see on TV in Africa ermm" no fucking shit, but guess what, there arent that many wild cats esp tigers living in the wild anymore-not to mention tigers are not particularly indigenous to Africa. fuckin redneck cop out for blood, I really hope his dreams are haunted-if he even has dreams.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

*I'm *aren't *especially *Fucking

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think it would be best if you didn't talk anymore.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

He'd gotten citations in the past for having poor living conditions for the animals, and they hadn't been fed in at least two days when they were released. Jack Hanna even agreed that putting them down was the right thing to do, though I really wish there'd been another way to secure all of them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I must also add that being mauled by a tiger would be a noble death...also a smart person wouldnt freak out in its presence. i would probly get in the fetal position. But still, dying by tiger makes you infinitely bad ass.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Again, what the hell?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They did capture a few of them. They also tried to tranquilize them at first. Some of the tranquilizers didn't work because they hit bone. They didn't have enough time to try to save them all. It's horrible that these animals were killed, but the humans needed to be protected.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I heard that they didn't have enough tranquilizers for all of them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why the fuck was some clearly insane arsehole in the middle of the USA allowed to keep so many wild and endangered animals?! And WHY, knowing all those animals were there, wasn't the place declared a sanctuary and appropriate safety precautions taken?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'll I'm going to say is they could have at least tried just a little harder to save the ones they could. The ones that were close to the human population they had good reason to shoot on sight. However the ones that were near underpopulated areas they could have tried to save. Instead they were like- "SHOOT ALL THE THINGS"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2011/10/jack-hanna-on-zanesville-ohio-animals-we-would-have-had-carnage/ Jack Hanna, wild life expert on the scene, even said there was nothing that could have been done.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

what would you even do with a bunch of tranquilized animals in such a small amount of time? I don't know about you guys, but I value human life over animals. call me insensitive, but what it comes down to is the sefety of the citizens.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They tried to tranquilize them. But when a 1000 pound tiger is running around in the dark, its hard to be effective with a atranquilizer gun. you have to hit them in the right spot, and then wait for the tranquilizer to kick in. Unfortunately, it was easier to protect to people of Zanesville by shooting the animals then trying to save them all.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Tigers don't weigh close to 1,000 pounds. They usually weigh about half that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The tranquilizers only worked for 40 seconds to a minute and they claim that they were too dangerous and aggravated.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Can't we all just be happy they didn't shoot the damn camels?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, they're just animals.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So are you and your family.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What I don't understand is how the hell someone can have 18 tigers (along with other animals) and not be noticed. Surely someone would've heard them? I also don't understand how such a scumbag with a record was allowed to have animals in the first place.
