+203 You know someone who was never allowed to celebrate Halloween because his/her conservative Christian parents saw it as an evil pagan holiday, amirite?

My parents are conservative and Christian and we are decorating our house with lots of gory and disturbing items. The music we are playing consists of demons and backtracks and anything related to hell. We also rented Hellraiser for the night.

I had a friend like that. She and her family were hard-core christian. When they found out i didn't worship god as much as they did, her mother told her to stop hanging around me. :P Oh well, at least i got treats.

My mom had me read this book every year http://ctrlv.in/42970

Doesn't that book state that the majority of the world worships Satan? Hahahaha.

haha I honestly don't remember. Once I got older we just turned the night into a family movie night so I don't really remember what it said anymore. Unfortunately that was AFTER it was too late for trick or treating D:

Halloween=all hallows eve=the eve of all saints day its not pagan at all, they're obviously not a hardcore christian if they don't even know that

Halloween does have some pagan roots. Samhain was a Celtic summer's end festival which was associated with supernatural encounters, considered to be an origin of Halloween. All Saints Day was another origin, though the two seem to have played off of each other to have a weird mix of Catholicism and folk spirituality

What Joe said. A lot of holidays coincide with Pagan holidays or rituals. As he said Samhain was their October 31st holiday which with many other celebrations and beliefs is now Halloween. It's like how the celebration on what is now Christmas started as a pagan holiday called Yule which marked the new Year.

Me... I had a sad childhood.

i never did halloween either because im christian. it never bothered me at all and it still doesnt bother me. its just something that i grew to accept

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, me :( I always felt so left out. The only time we ever did something was when I was seven (or something, can't exactly remember) we gave out candy to trick-or-treaters. But we couldn't actually go ourselves... And once we went to this church thing, when I was like ten.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Hey that's me. I went trick-or-treating last year for the first time... I'm 16. I wish I would have experienced that as a child :\

by Anonymous 12 years ago

There's a difference between celebrating Halloween and doing something for Halloween. That's what most Christians say anyways to justify their trick or treating. I don't know the background history of Halloween but I don't see a problem with it as long as you're not like worshipping the devil or messing with evil spirits for Halloween.

And that same friend is having a Halloween party this year...?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, two. There were these two idiot brothers down the road from me when I was in elementary school, and they were always whining because their religion apparently prevented them from celebrating pretty much any holiday ever.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

My mom's never let me go trick or treating and not 10 minutes ago when I was making my costume, for school, she looked at me and was like "You shouldn't be celebrating a pagan holiday." I don't miss out on candy though cause my best friend always gives me half of his.

I used to go to school with a Jehovah's Witness who couldn't even celebrate her own birthday, let alone Halloween, but I've never met a hardcore Christian like that.

We are conservative and Christian but we can celebrate Halloween - just no decorations, scary costumes, or Halloween music. We were allowed to dress up as little princesses or lego characters and trick-or-treat.
