A person has the right to end their life, amirite?
by Anonymous12 years ago
you seem down man even your sn. look cheer up things will get better. i promise. if you try to fix them
by Anonymous13 years ago
its way beyond fixable
by Anonymous13 years ago
I have no sympathy for whiny people who cry out for attention instead of working on solutions to their problems.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Not all suiciders whine out their problems. In fact, most suiciders are men and kill themselves because they have no one to express their feelings and emotions to. Next time look up statistics and documentaries before posting something like that.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Actually more women attempt suicide. Men just succeed more often because they use more efficient methods. Still, I think the anon's comment was unnecessary.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Out of curiosity, what would a woman do to kill herself as opposed to a man?
by Anonymous12 years ago
Women will generally go for more peaceful alternatives, such as drug overdose, whicj are slow acting and can be reversed if caught quickly enough. Men, on the other hand, usually shoot themselves or jump off of buildings
by Anonymous12 years ago
Ok, thanks. So it's basically like men usually wait until they're sure, and women figure if they change their mind on the way they can? Interesting.
Personally, if I ever were to commit suicide I'd probably do something like jump off a building, because you might as well die with something exhilarating.
by Anonymous12 years ago
What Sonofarifle said. This isn't always the case of course, but statistically speaking that's the general result.
by Anonymous12 years ago
But in this case, in my opinion, it's whiny. I'm sorry but to me it just comes across as a way to get attention, and it's almost like they're posting this and waiting for people to come say nice things about how they shouldn't kill themselves (which is exactly what happened). And then they go and say in the comments "it's way beyond fixable". I'm not saying that anybody should commit suicide, because I think it's a horrible "solution" to their problems, and I've had people close to me struggle with depression (myself included); however, instead of feeling sorry for yourself and moping, work towards happiness instead of saying poor me, there's nothing I can do.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Not before they at least try to get help.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Talk your problems out with anyone first. There's always someone you can reach; a school counselor has always been recommended, as they've had relatively more experience with issues than most people. Don't do anything hasty please. I may not know your problem, but if you try, you can always find people to relate to.. :)
by Anonymous12 years ago
It's the most selfish thing a person could do, but it is their own right.
by Anonymous12 years ago
It's the most selfless thing Hitler did.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I know your joking, but Hitler killed himself because he was losing. He knew he would be severely punished if he were caught.
by Anonymous12 years ago
It brings out an interesting dilemma. If the Americans caught him and brutally tortured him for "payback", would it be a good thing (In the eyes of the public) or make us no better?
by Anonymous12 years ago
It is a good point. One could say that if he had killed or tortured him it would definitely send a powerful message that what he did was wrong (in case anyone didn't get it).
by Anonymous12 years ago
If that person is dying slowly of terminal cancer, yes, I think that's their choice. If that person is perfectly healthy and just depressed, absolutely not. See a therapist, try out for a play, take a vacation, vandalize something, whatever. Find something you like enough to live for and figure out a new way to be happy, because there's too much to live for to end it all unnecessarily over something you'll probably think was stupid ten years from now.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Not everyone has the access or money to those things. Not everyone even knows that help exists, they feel alone. That's the problem.
by Anonymous12 years ago
The issue is that it's easy to say, "just don't kill yourself," when you're not depressed. Emotions cause people to become irrational and therefore, people who commit suicide let their emotions overwhelm their ability to rationalize.
by Anonymous12 years ago
> perfectly healthy and just depressed
Since when is depression healthy? Emotional pain can be just as bad as physical pain, if not worse
by Anonymous12 years ago
I was referring to physical health, actually. But that is a good point.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Thats just selfish
by Anonymous12 years ago
Someone gave you life, you didn't just appear, therefore it's not your life to take.
by Anonymous12 years ago
By that logic, my mom should be allowed to kill me.
by Anonymous12 years ago
No, because people who say this usually believe in God and therefor believe that God gave you life and only God can end it.
by Anonymous12 years ago
If God can end my life, he can also choose to thwart my suicide attempt. If God doesn't want me to kill myself, then he should stop me.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I know you probably don't believe in God, but I'll say it anyways: God gave us free will for a reason. If you want to end your life he's not going to stop you.
by Anonymous12 years ago
He can prevent my death without interfering my free will. He can let me shoot myself in the head, but then he can stop the bullet from hitting a vital part of my brain. It isn't "will" that makes me die, it's just wherever the bullet hits me. The free will part stops as soon as I pull the trigger.
by Anonymous12 years ago
two words: free will.
by Anonymous12 years ago
He can prevent my death without interfering my free will. He can let me shoot myself in the head, but then he can stop the bullet from hitting a vital part of my brain. It isn't "will" that makes me die, it's just wherever the bullet hits me. The free will part stops as soon as I pull the trigger.
by Anonymous12 years ago
But your will is still to die. That's what you want.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Okay, how bout this? When there is an attempted murder on the news, everyone always says something like "God was watching over him/her". If God is what prevented that murder, then He interfered with the assailant's free will, right?
by Anonymous12 years ago
That's a good question. I'd say that free will only goes so far. If your free will is to kill someone, else, it doesn't work the same way if God wants that person to live. We have freedom of speech, for example, but if that speech puts someone else in danger, it isn't allowed, but you can write as many slanderous articles about yourself as you want.
by Anonymous12 years ago
But if God was able to pick and choose who got free will, that would defeat the point. Only people that use their free will to do stuff that God agrees with would actually have free will.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I don't think free will can override God's choice to keep someone alive. If someone is not meant to die, you can't kill them. Maybe if you're not meant to die, your suicide attempt will fail. Suicide, I also feel, is a different circumstance. God offers different protections for those that believe in him or that pray for protection. Suicide is an action that shows they have no faith that God will make things better. Also, when people say, "God must have been watching over him/her" maybe they are wrong. Maybe it was just chance that they didn't die, not that no near-death experiences can't have something to do with God. I think you should ask DictatorCourtney the same question. I'd be interested to read her response.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Hm. Alrighty, I'll do that.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Okay. I would say that because other people are perhaps praying for the person or the person is maybe hoping, "God, don't let me die." God intercedes for them. But when a person kills him or herself, they aren't asking God to be saved. But I would also say that if someone was praying for that depressed person, God might do something then. He might show that person something that influences them away from suicide or do something to move their hand so that it could hit a different spot. God works in mysterious ways so I can't say for sure, "Oh, He's doing this." But there is supposed to be a certain power in prayer, and that is an expression of someone's will, and He also gave us free will, to do what we want.
by Anonymous12 years ago
But then God would interfere with your free will, which He does not do. He could stop you from doing anything, but He won't because you have to make your own decisions. He gave you free will so that you could choose to return His love and friendship. Turning away from Him is sinning, but because true love is a choice, He won't take away your choice. Only God has the right to end human life, because He gave it to us. That's part of why it is wrong to murder. We did not create that life, God did.
by Anonymous12 years ago

by Anonymous12 years ago
He's not going to interfere with your decisions. Yes, He could do all those things. But He'd still be interfering with your life and your decision even if it's not direct. He's not allowed to stop you from pulling the trigger but He can stop the bullet? So He can let you make the choice, but not allow/change the results or consequences?
by Anonymous12 years ago
Yes. In fact: http://amirite.net/613975
by Anonymous12 years ago
God could do anything, but He doesn't. He's not going to change the results of our actions if our free will is that it not happen. So, He'll let you pick up a crayon and start drawing but He won't let the crayon touch the paper? Yeah, that's definitely interfering with our free will, if He won't actually let you do it.
by Anonymous12 years ago
He'll let you do whatever you want, but he doesn't have to let our actions have the desired effect.
by Anonymous12 years ago
But that's still not letting us do what we want. That's just an illusion of free will. That's still forcing us to go along with His will.
by Anonymous12 years ago
It is letting us do what we want, it's just preventing what we want to happen from happening. Actions are free will, consequences of actions are not.
by Anonymous12 years ago
By that logic, we would never be allowed to sin or turn from God. By interfering with the results He is still interfering with our actions/our actions would mean nothing. We would be puppets. If the action doesn't do anything, there was no point in it. Disallowing us from doing what we want, having that come into fruition, that's still controlling us.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I disagree, but I'll admit that's a good argument.
by Anonymous12 years ago
If someone gives something to you, it's yours.
by Anonymous12 years ago
If you're in a permanent state of physical pain, yes.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Of course it's your own right to end your life, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't think fifty times before actually going through with it
(I was gonna put "or you might regret it" .. wow sara,, wow.)
by Anonymous12 years ago
Suicide should never be the answer, but admittedly it should be your own choice.
Also (I don't have a source for this), I believe suicide rates are highest among the elderly.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Actually, I've heard of a lot of laws against suicide, where you get fined or killed for jumping off of buildings and such (pretty stupid laws it seems). But nevertheless, suicide is never the answer. There's always something to live for, to survive for. Never give up hope.
by Anonymous12 years ago
It's a terrible idea to commit suicide, but you have the right to do so.
by Anonymous12 years ago
It is your own right. It is your live.
But not for teenagers. There should be higher suicide prevention for teenagers.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I believe they have the right to kill themselves, but most of the time, its not the best choice. I agree with a lot of people on this post. Seek help.
When you get through something really difficult, you will see that you can get through so much more. Think about what you can accomplish once you overcome difficulties, if not for others, for yourself.
by Anonymous12 years ago
It depends on the situation. If you're in constant physical pain and dying from a rare disease and losing your limbs and sight and it's pretty much known you won't get better, I think you should be allowed to make the decision not to be put on life support.
But if you're considering suicide in a fit of anxiety or bout of depression, others should intervene immediately. Things can seem absolutely horrible, but it can get so much better with help. It really can.
OP, if you're depressed and considering suicide, please, please seek help. Don't make a poor decision that you won't even be able to regret.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I believe it is your choice, but as a christian I believe your punishment for that choice is worse than anything you could be going through in life.
But personally I think anyone who would choose suicide is a coward who's to much of a bitch to deal with their problems so they take the easy way out. Life is hard and unfair, death is easy, certain, and does not discriminate. Only the strong can deal with all of lifes adversities, if you choose suicide you are a pathetic coward not worthy of the gift you've been given.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I'm assuming (please correct me if I'm wrong) that you have never experienced any suicidal feelings or severe depression. I don't think it's fair to call someone who is unable to cope with depression a "pathetic coward" because they feel that there is no other solution for them.
by Anonymous12 years ago
no I have not, but personally I don't think that depression is an excuse for such an act. Suicide is the ultimate formof disrespect towards your maker regardless of what you believe your maker to be. Life is the greatest gift that can be given and is wasted on someone who would throw it away when some never even get a chance at it. I don't care how sad and lonely you are, or what excuses you make to try and make to justify it. It is an unjustifiable, selfish, and cowardly act.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I do agree that it is a selfish act, but as someone who has teetered on the edge of suicide, the feeling of wanting to die is so extreme that there comes a point where you almost don't care anymore. I agree that life is a gift from God (I am, in fact a Christian too) and should not be thrown away. Still, it isn't quite fair to draw conclusions about people who have or attempted committing suicide.
by Anonymous12 years ago
just because I haven't had severe depression doesn't mean I haven't gone through tough times, I have been down pretty low. I have been homeless, I've seen people get shot, my father was never there much when I was young. whatever excuses you wanna make for their case it is unjustifiable. I could have gotten depressed and said "my life sucks, I wanna die" but I never have. we all go through troubles in our lives, most of us handle it fine, but there is always a weak link that can't take it. and those weak links are the ungrateful cowards who waste the gift and opportunity they have been given by committing suicide. suicide makes me sad, but it doesn't make me feel sorry for the one who committed suicide, I feel sorry for their loved ones, those that their life could have gone to in to and put it to better use with, for god that one of his children would be so ungrateful as to take the ultimate gift and step on it. I draw no conclusion about the people who have done so, all I say is that their actions were motivated by cowardice and foolishness. I pray for them that god may have mercy on their misguided souls. no matter the excuse it is and always will be unjustifiable.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I understand what you're saying and I'm sorry you have experienced all of those horrible things. But, I don't think I could make it more clear, it isn't an act of cowardice. When someone commits suicide it's because they really cannot cope with their depression. It's not simply because their "life sucks."
by Anonymous12 years ago
It seems pretty clear to me that it is. we are both seeing the same thing, we just choose to look at it in a different shade of light. depression comes from not being able to deal with your problems. but you can only be depressed if you let yourself fall to it. and I hate to use this as an example, but did Hitler commit suicide because he was depressed? no, it was because he was a coward who refused to face his crimes. it is an act of cowardice used so one does not have to face their problems. that is the way I see it. I apologize that it so harsh and offensive to you and others, but this is not something that I will sugar coat. it is an act that should never be done.
by Anonymous12 years ago
No problem man. And I do understand what you're saying, but I don't think most people don't commit suicide for that reason. Obviously, we have different views on this subject. So I say we just go on our separate ways. :)
by Anonymous12 years ago
then that we shall do, farewell to you.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Suicide is the most selfish thing anyone could ever do. Nothing can ever be that bad that you have to end your own life. You got to find the bright side of everything and move forward. Always remember that someone out there has it worse than you. Be thankful for what you have and thank god for giving you life everyday!
by Anonymous12 years ago
I'm not here to complain, but yeah, one day I am going to be a tourist in San Francisco and jump off Golden Gate Bridge, seems a pretty fun and quick way to do what I've always wanted to do. :D
by Anonymous12 years ago
That's not funny.
by Anonymous12 years ago
It's not supposed to be... Just because I am going to kill myself doesn't mean I can't have a sense of humour meanwhile.
I have thought of several suicide methods and not to my avail there aren't many non-painful methods where I live, so most likely I am going to jump off a bridge, tall building or go to the USA and get a gun to shoot myself.
There was no attempt at humour there, it is the future of myself.
by Anonymous12 years ago
So you're defending your right to make the joke you claim you didn't make.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I don't see how it's a joke if it is the reality.
by Anonymous12 years ago
If you weren't trying to be funny, then why did you say "Just because I am going to kill myself doesn't mean I can't have a sense of humour meanwhile?"
by Anonymous12 years ago
The way I said the whole thing appeared to be cynical and to most also non-real and a mock to those who kill themselves, as I said it in such a eerily happy way.
by Anonymous12 years ago
But then you said you weren't trying to be funny. Why would you defend your right to be funny if you already stated that you weren't being funny?
Anyway, if you really wanted to kill yourself, then wouldn't you have done it by now?
by Anonymous12 years ago
Because they thought it was me being funny and my way of writing that comment could be dark humour in a way.
No. I would have done it years ago, the first day I wanted to kill myself; over 600 days have passed with that thought in my mind every day. I have no gun, there are no tall buildings, there is no sea, I have no boat, I have no car, knives would be too painful, I have no rope, etc. Any suggestions please?
by Anonymous12 years ago
You made 2 counterarguments that contradicted each other. You argued that it was okay for you to be funny, AND you argued that you weren't being funny.
As for suggestions, why not jump off the Golden Gates Bridge?
by Anonymous12 years ago
Because it's about 10,000 km away from where I am.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Can't you just fly there?
by Anonymous12 years ago
I have about US$150 in my bank account, so no, I can't.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Get a loan from the bank. It's not like you're going to pay it back.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Holy shit, did I just kill someone?
by Anonymous12 years ago
Haha nah, I'm still around. But I might be getting a girlfriend today so that might change stuff.
by Anonymous12 years ago
you seem like the type of person that would laugh at someone that's getting raped
by Anonymous12 years ago
No. You don't really know me.
by Anonymous12 years ago
To clarify: just because suicidal people wish harm or death upon themselves, that does not mean they wish harm or death upon other human beings.
