my brother with autism used to listen to classical music to help with certain aspects of his autism and my mom said it helped

I really don't want to go all grammar nazi here, but you don't need to say "but". Since you said "music ISN'T just good for enjoying and chilling" you should have said "because". Sorry, that was just bothering me.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Or OP could have said "but it also". Meh, it doesn't really matter. (And this is coming from a self-proclaimed Grammer Nazi. My cousins used to call me the Evil English Teacher.)

Correct. Similarly, pets have therapeutic benefits. When shown a cat or dog, far gone Alzheimer's patients (even those whom previously didn't enjoy pets) have been known to smile and interact with them. Also, they are sometimes used to help autistic children learn to interact.

I think it's funny that I had "My Humps" in my head when I read this.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's a shame, though, if the autistic child doesn't like music. For a lot of kids, their senses are sensitive and they can't listen to music without feeling uncomfortable.

Well if you think about it there are endless ranges and rythyms one can come up with, I'm sure it would be possible to find or create a song to fit the child's liking.
