+125 Interesting how the Tea Party rallies never escalated to violence/destruction like the Occupy movement in Oakland, amirite?

I don't really agree with the sentiments of either of the rallies and I don't support violent protests, but it should be noted that the police never really bothered the Tea Party rallyers, while it seems as if the police in Oakland are willing to use foce against any protester, whether violent or peaceful. Again, I don't support the use of violence in response to that, but still.

Interesting how the conservative American government lets the Tea Party do what they want, but the second a liberal movement takes place, the police start tear gassing people because they can.

It's interesting how the Tea Party movement was criticized and generalized as racists by media while the Occupy movement is being praised and appreciated by the media.

One of the Tea Party's main platforms is "Obama isn't American." On of Occupy's main platforms is "We need jobs."

The true Tea Party is a conservative AND libertarian movement. Their platform consists of reducing government spending, opposing taxation in certain degrees, as well as reducing the national debt and the federal budget decifit. In fact, Ron Paul is considered to be the founder of the Movement.

Occupy addresses housing, jobs, corporate greed, company spending, job discrimination, etc. And you obviously don't know shit about what actually happened in Oakland. It was peaceful until the mayor ordered the police to tear gas the protestors because she didn't want them standing out there anymore. Then she fired the Chief of Police who was actually improving the city. The protestors weren't being violent in anyway, and they still aren't. Try to find out what you're talking about before you make assumptions.

Where's the part where the protesters were starting fires, smashing windows, writing graffiti, and committing just about every other act of vandalism. You realize that the rest of the protesters are condemning them for their actions. What went down in Oakland was the protesters' faults.

So then they should leave wall street and start applying SOMEWHERE.

I'm not sure you're aware, but that's what everyone has been doing for years, and there are no jobs. You see, that would be the point of the protest.

I still don't feel bad. There are jobs- they might be menial, but jobs are out there. Just because you are "qualified" for a job paying 60+k doesn't mean that's what you'll find.

My friend just graduated from college with a four year degree in Chinese and 80k of debt. She can't even find a job waitressing, and she won't be able to make loan payments so she might have to default. STFU and learn how the world really works before you go around making generalizations.

The thing is, people with degrees in whatever can't get jobs because employers would have to pay them more. So a lot of people can't get jobs because CEOs want more money for themselves and they don't really give a shit who they hire.

I STILL don't feel bad OR support them. They are calling for redistrubution of wealth. Why should the 53% that pay federal tax give their hard earned money to OTHER people?

For every 1 job available there are over 4 unemployed people. There aren't enough jobs.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That is true- I also do uderstand that someone people genuinely can't find jobs. My problem is with people who view jobs as bellow them. It kills me when someone won't go and apply for basic jobs because they think they're entitled to a better job.
