+249 It's strange that the Canadian Hockey Team is known as the "Maple Leafs" instead of "Maple Leaves", amirite?

Is that really strange for Canadians?

We have more than one hockey team!

oops sorry! well "Canadian" was used as an adjective, i wasn't saying it was the only Canadian team.

The Leafs are just the Toronto team, there are lots more hockey teams in Canada

The Maple Leaf was a military infantry or something of the like, based in Toronto. Maple Leaf is a proper noun in this case, so the plural form is just the singular form with an s added to the end.

Well we have a team that's called the stealers instead of the thieves

I feel awkward saying "leafs" every time I say this!
