+112 In order to gain truth, we have to use our brains and logic, not our senses and emotions, amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What? Our entire reality is based on our senses. You need senses to use your brain.

Maybe OP meant feelings?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's why they said emotions. And this is all relative to what they see "truth" to be anyways. Because truth doesn't actually exist.

I think the kind of truth they meant was truths like 1 + 2 = 3 and that females have two x chromosomes. Anyway, emotions come from the brain to begin with. And in our evolutionary past emotions and instinct probably helped us more than logic did.

Senses =/= emotions.

OP also meant not to let emotions blind us from the truth. A lot of people will make decisions based off of their emotions tater than based off what is actually the right thing to do. That's why doctors don't work on people they are close to.

Finally, someone else gets it. Fuck emotions!

But in order to gain wisdom, you must experiment with your senses and emotions..

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You would be one of those rogue Jedi that turns Sith because of the emotions. True wisdom needs only practice and experience.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Practice doesn't create wisdom. Experience does. And the reason experience is different from practice is because of the emotions and stress and everything else that comes with it.

If you take philosophy, it becomes quickly apparent that "truth" is a load of bollocks. And emotions are an important part if life. At some point I. You life you'll realize that logic doesn't solve everything, and it's nigh impossible to live strictly according to logic.
