+272 It's ironic that we call brain-dead people 'vegetables', since the origin of the word means 'to be alive or active', amirite?

Brain-dead people are now pizza?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well they are alive ...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But not active..

by Anonymous 12 years ago

To be alive OR active. They're alive.

That's arguable. IMO if the brain is dead, the person is dead. They aren't going to just wake up someday and go for a jog.

It's not arguable. Medically speaking, they are alive. That's a fact. You thinking otherwise doesn't change fact. And people actually can wake up after being brain dead, it has happened.

Where did you hear this? Brain dead means no brain activity. It's irreversible. It can be used in determining that a patient is dead, meaning that they are no longer alive and are a corpse. Legally their organs can now be donated. However, people can wake up from a coma or PVS.
