Most religions try to show people how to 'live right,' are you saying that the world would be better without people TRYING to improve their own life and the lives of others?

Despite most religions teaching the right things (don't steal, etc.), not everything it teaches would fall into the "improve their own life" category, in my humble opinion.

People can live "right" without religion. Just because a person isn't religious doesn't mean they aren't good people. Also, religion hasn't always been the savior in the past.

the mormans have helped out greatly in the pacific coast, the muslims have invented algebra, christian organizations send doctors and feed the youth in africa... can't see who those things can make society better eh? there are people outside the states, y'know?

No, not all people, I just said often, I sort of have a pessimistic view of people that even the one's that don't act greedy are probably acting that way because they believe it will help them get into heaven. Not all ore even most atheists will act greedy because of social standards or because they truly are nice. If religious they may feel more inclined to donate thinking about an afterlife and all.

The bible is full of stories to teach us how to live good lives...so why do we have to go to church every sunday and give money to guys that are saying the same shit thats in the bible?

The problem is that many religious extremists get power. Religions don't force you to be a bad person. Personal beliefs and religious extremists are what have an influence.
