Now days "gangsters" refer to themselves as 'gangstas'. If someone refers to themselves as a 'gangsta', then chances are they're not one.

Are we talking about the guys who dress fly and act "gangster", or are we talking legitimate organized crime? Because gangs today are still just as bad as they were during the twenties, if not worse. I'm assuming the former because you put it in quotes, and I'm inclined to agree, but I just want to point out that real gangsters today are pretty fucking legit.

I'm aiming more towards the people who act gangster and dress fly. I honestly can't take any gang nowadays seriously because of posers and idiots that talk smack and don't back it up.

Oh, no, there are still intense gangs. The Cosa Nostra's still going strong from what I gather. The Winter Hill Gang was pretty recent, you may have heard about former leader-turned-FBI informant Whitey Bulger in the news. They just found him after like ten years or something ridiculous like that. Texas Syndicate, Nurenos, Surenos, Aryan Brotherhood, those are all still alive and well. Oh, and the Russian Mafia. They're fucking hardcore. American prisons are nothing compared to compounds in Russian. Those guys are fucking tough as nails. But I get your point. People throw around the word 'gang' a lot without truly understanding the concept of gang. It most often involves less 'hanging outside 7Eleven' and more 'smuggling drugs into the country and feeding the fishes'.
