+46 Religion got people to believe in an invisible man who lives in the sky and watches everything you do every second of the day. amirite?

That's not at all how Christianity works. I believe that God loves us and wants to forgive us, not to judge us. I believe that God 'came down from heaven,' became a man, suffered and died so that we could be forgiven, then rose from the grave to show that He is God, and has conquered even death. God is powerful, loving, and merciful. I love Jesus because he first loved me, dying for us while we were still sinners, so that we can let him take our burdens and live life free from the bondage of sin.

Believing in a God is understandable, but I can't fathom why anyone would choose to follow a particular doctrine and claim to know how God works, what He wants, etc.

Science has gotten people to believe crazier things than that

But science has something called evidence backing it up.

Most people who are reasonably versed in the sciences know that this evidence is often flawed and experimental observations can be interpreted in numerous ways. This can result in many conclusions and explanations for natural phenomena and many times the one that is settled upon is later found to be incorrect.

I disagree that scientific evidence if often flawed. Perhaps you've often heard of scientific evidence being disproved in your science classes, but for every case you hear about scientific evidence being refuted, there are thousands of scientific facts that haven't been disproved. Regardless of how accurate valid you believe scientific evidence is, it's more convincing than a book.

By flawed, I mostly meant limited. Almost every major scientific theory in the history of human kind has been disproved in favor of whatever the current accepted theory is once new evidence came to light. You just never hear about them because they are no longer relevant and thus no longer taught in institutions of learning. It's naive to think scientists always get things right the first time around and I think that your argument that scientific evidence is so much more convincing shows a profound misunderstanding of (or unwillingness to understand) the belief systems of many people of faith.

Explain, then. Science has thousands of years of development and progress while religion has an old book. Furthermore, there are thousands of religions that currently being practiced, meaning the vast majority of practiced religions are wrong. It would be untruthful to claim the vast majority of accepted scientific facts are wrong, which, in my mind, puts science on top.

I'm not trying to turn it into a competition between science and religion or say that one is better than the other. Honestly, I think it's a ridiculous argument to have. I'm simply trying to get you to look at things from another point of view and consider that the construct through which you view the world isn't as airtight as you might think.

That's why they do their best to disprove every hypothesis and theory that they come up with, rather than saying "this is the way it is, case closed".
