It's pretty ridiculous that germany has completely x'ed out WWII & Hitler from their history, amirite?
by Anonymous12 years ago
wait they really did that?
by Anonymous12 years ago
That's what my history teacher said
by Anonymous12 years ago
You teacher is a sensationalist. My family is hosting an exchange student from Berlin this year, and she says they learn about it kist like we do here.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Well how much of the actual story do Americans get over the treatment of the Native Americans. Do a study abroad one day and take an American history class, you'd be amazing how much stuff we "accidentally" forgot to put in the curriculum.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Wow sleep deprivation does wonder to my grammar ..
by Anonymous12 years ago
And you wonder about if the Europeans acually teach about all the places they invaded and all the natives they killed... America is not the only place that has done uprooted people from their land.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I dont know about you but in my history class we learned about this.
by Anonymous12 years ago
"Omitted" also works.
by Anonymous12 years ago
So could exclude, except, leave out, leave of, take out, extinguish, eliminate, get rid of, do away with, but nooo I used x'ed, Kay?
by Anonymous12 years ago
No, CHAUNCY! I don't have a **k** in my name!
by Anonymous12 years ago
I'm sorry to correct you, but that is not true. In fact, German history classes are mostly about WWI & WWII and Hitler. Every student here learns everything about those wars. We are not oblivious to our past.
Additionally, every year there are big ceremonies held to honour the victims of fascim.

I was going to say something like this. Like, in Germany, they have a HUGE focus on WWI & II and especially the Holocaust. They really emphasize the whole "never again" promise that was made after WWII.
It's ignorant to think that Germany would cut that out of their history because they're embarrassed about their past, when they in fact do the exact opposite.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Besides, the Germans alive today did not do anything. They were not involved in the war, they were not involved with Hitler, and they were not involved in the Holocaust. It would be awesome if people hated the Germans who actually were involved in all of that, and stop hating the Germans alive today who had nothing to do with it. And obviously, as you said, they aren't trying to cover it up.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Even so, not all Germans that were alive during that time were responsible for what happened. My great-grandmother is still alive, and she lives in Stuttgart and I don't think any less of her because she was a German during World War II.
by Anonymous12 years ago
There you go then. You are right, not all Germans were involved in it. Just like not all Americans ran out the Native Americans and not all Americans owned slaves.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Exactly. I mean, my great-grandfathers were even in the Navy at that time, but that doesn't mean they were supporters of Hitler. It means they fought in a war for their home country. People are too quick these days to lump entire groups of people together.

I was going to say the same thing, it's definitely a large part of what we learn. That and here in eastern Germany we also learn a lot about the DDR. And what I learned in history while I was in America was taught very biased. I'm not saying that the Germans aren't biased either, but many Americans don't know basic facts, like hitler grew to power by completely fixing the German economy (THAT is why they shouted "Heil Hitler") and making many large advancements that benefited Germany and the rest of Europe. Only then, when he attained a place of power that could not be taken away from him, did he begin the holocaust and other terrible things. And only about 5-8% of people supported him, not the whole country. It was either serve in his army, or die, they didn't have a choice
by Anonymous12 years ago
Ooh, ooh my history class taught that! Don't worry, we're not all super dumb.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Umm... I'd say YYA but they didn't do that.
by Anonymous12 years ago
It would be ridiculous if they actually did that, but the Germans weren't that stupid... I was talking to a German kid the other day who came to Texas as a foreign exchange student and he was asked about it and I think he could tell me more about it than several history teachers I've had.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Your history teacher probably won't tell you that not all of the slaveholders just took the Africans, but most of the Africans sold us their people. Look it up.
by Anonymous12 years ago
That is terrible
So they didn't all think that they were headed for a great life?
