Yeah, in the songs you're talking about, the first line of the song is the refrain... the same place most other songs get their title. And Christmas carols start with verses too, Silver Bells, Winter Wonderland, Let It Snow

why not? that's how all the hymns are in the church hymn books. makes it easier to find the stupid song. and you know what to say when you are rapidly flipping through still trying to find it when the music starts.
