+151 Dinner and a movie is the worst idea for a first date. Let's show each other how good we are a pigging out, then sit next to each other in silence for a couple hours. That will definitely make me want to be around you more, amirite?

Anything can sound terrible when you put it like that. "let's go sit down and not talk for two hours while we watch people dressed in costumes pretend to be someone else"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's true. However, I still think it's the worst date idea, especially a first date.

I like it. I mean...take me for who I am. If you're comfortable to be around me that long without talking, you're worth it.

I usually do movie and dinner because it can be awkward so having an excuse to not talk can be good then when you're at dinner you will have something to talk about.

Plus movies are cool and you can hold his hand when you "get scared" if its a horror film.

But I feel like if you need an excuse not to talk to someone, you really shouldn't have taken them on a date in the first place.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's not an excuse it can just be weird.

I think it's a nice idea, but your wording would make anyone agree with you. What about a walk in the park? "Let's go get some unnecessary exercise and probably sweat a lot by walking in a public area where tons of noisy children will be around to bug us."

i think its a good bet because if dinner goes well and you click, you can spend the movie whispering and giggling to eachother but if it doesnt go well you at least get to see a good movie

Always see a funny movie though. You can figure out their sense of humour and what their laugh sounds like. VERY important.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What a person's laugh sounds like is now VERY important?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Its a deal breaker if they have a retarded laugh lol

It can be hard to make conversation on the first date. Seeing a movie takes the pressure off, AND gives you something to talk about later. Plus, everyone eats, so doing something familiar like eating dinner adds some comfort to an experience that could make you nervous.

I think it's a rather good idea, actually. Though it might not mean much you can tell what kind of movies the other person likes while making plans, and during dinner you've got around an hour or so to just chat.

Then let's say you take her to her favorite team. " Hey, lets go and sit in some disgusting seats for a couple of hours, surrounded by sweaty drunk guys, to watch people be more athletic then me." Its true, but put in a bad light, like what you just did.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

But then you can find out if they're movie talkers or not.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

So, OP, what would your ideal date be then?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Perhaps a mid-afternoon ice cream store visit and then going to a park to walk, or play on a playground, or color with chalk together. Just something where you can actually talk to each other.

So like, pig out on calories-on-a-cone, then burn that off on your walk while getting all sweaty and tired, or act like children while playing on booger and spit coated slide and swings, or get your hands messy by drawing pictures on the ground that will wash away in a few days anyway. Not hatin' but just trying to prove a point; you could put anything in a bad light and make it sound terrible.

See, but I feel like all of those descriptions just make the activity sound bad, not the person. Pigging out on dinner is much worse than one ice cream cone and then talking to each other, despite the sweat. Just, uh, walk slowly...

That's how you see it, but to others, dinner and a movie is fantastic! It depends on how much you like to eat and if you have open pores or not.
