+389 It'd be cool if there was a website where you could enter the serial number on your money and see where it's traveled all over the country, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I just tried with five bills and none of them had any information.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

when people enter / start a bill, they write "wheresgeorge.com" on the bill itself. so if you get a bill like that, enter it, otherwise, it hasn't been started yet.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It usually takes at least a hundred - then you should stamp or write the url on them and spend them - someone will find and enter one eventually.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

There is.

Nice name [:

It would be really cool if there was a site where you could post your opinions and/or jokes and see how other people vote on them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Anthony made a site like this for the UK.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Whats the site?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Do you //really// want to actually see where your dollar has been?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Most recent history of your bill: Walmart strip club shady convenience store another strip club that dude playing bongo's at the train station's collection bowl yet another strip club

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And in the middle of those places it was being used to snort drugs

by Anonymous 12 years ago

go to www.wheresgeorge.com - there are (relatively) very few US bills in the database, so it sometimes takes a while to get a hit - most people have to enter at least a hundred bills to get their first. And that's if you write the url on the bill - people who do not stamp or mark their georges can enter thousands without a hit.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Anonymous is right...takes about a hundred to start seeing any results.

It's a fun activity ... for about 6 months. Then it gets old really quick. And you have to deal with a herd of Rule Nazis and WebMaster who's all about The Master part. Of course, for $7 a month, you too can become a sycophant!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

bitter? i barely knew 'er!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

True dat! but remember: "From the very beginnings of Where's George?, I felt it should be a totally free site for anyone and everyone to enjoy. Where's George? is NOT and WILL NEVER become a pay or subscription only website."

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It *IS* free. You may CHOOSE to become a friend and get extra features for supporting the site. IT's totally optional, and you can get along just fine for free.

You know, using "Nazi" to refer to a hobby website is probably pretty damn offensive to the 6 Million Jews, Catholics, Gypsies, homosexuals, and mentally or physically handicapped people that were slaughtered in WWII. Yes, it's Hank's site, and runs by his rules, but as far as I know, he hasn't murdered anyone yet.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's a simple historical reference intended to describe - pretty accurately as it turns out - the rigid, obsessive, and fanatical minset of SOME people on a website supporting what's an obsessive-compulsive activity. From the comments left on Herr Hank's thread linking here, it appears most of them "got" the reference and immediately recognized its implications. The reactions there are quite funny! Except - of course - for the Ones who couldn't recognize themselves if you taped a bathroom mirror to their forehead. So take out a loan and go buy yourself a sense of humor!

The Nazis were also known fror their love of propaganda and "the big lie", something the detractors of WG have been more than willing to employ. The rules at WG are not oppressive and designed to keep everything legal and honest. But when you open your game to the bulk of humanity, you eventually let in those who decide that they are above the rules and know better than the rest of us. There are a number of these butt-hurt individuals who are now bad-mouthing WG wherever the topic comes up (and places where it doesn't). The saddest part might be that this individual could have found any number of meaningful things to get personally outraged over: starving children, environmental disaster, the criminal underuse of the two dollar bill. This one has chosen as their cause celebre the fact that they didn't get their own way when playing a web game. Which, for them (and no-one else), is exactly the same as Nazi Germany. Stay classy, internet trolls...

(Alix M.): I think it's you who needs to "take out a loan and go buy yourself a sense of humor!" Or perhaps buy yourself a reality check. 1) Your statement is offensive, 2) wheresgeorge.com is a privately owned and operated website. It is NOT a democracy! Hank can run it however he sees fit just as you have the same option on your own website, and 3) your vitriol implies, IMO, that maybe you are someone Hank has banned for violating his terms of use on his website.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's always rewarding when opinion is turned into reality. A classic example of the sycophants you'll find there. They always fall back on the "It's Hank's site. Hank's rules." slogan, as if anyone cares or it resolves all issues. They also cannot in any way, shape or form accept accurate depictions of their obsessive Rule Fetish (Gee, hope that doesn't offend any fetish fans!) behavior. And despite their attempts to pigeon-hole any critics, I am in fact still on the site ... and not "banned" ... as though that always defines all naysayers. All we need now is DCM throwing his "authority" around and we'll score the hat trick! They always make this way, way too easy.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Anyone questioning why the use of the term "Nazi" might be considered offensive to some (especially when referencing a hobby website) might want to read this article on The Raw Story, "Stewart busts Fox News for use of Nazi references" www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/01/25/stewart-busts-fox-news-nazi-references/ The video is quite entertaining. :-D

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Gee, isn't using the "Z word" to describe your outrage also offending the same people?!? I think the count is now Me - 1, Hank-o-wanks - 3 in the "Z Wars"! Guess you guys "win"!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The easiet way is to get like 100 dollars from the bank and enter them and right wheresgeorge.com on them and take them back to the bank and get 100 different dollars. Just keep doing that like 5 thousand time or something and you will turn into a octopus in wattsburg.

Hank wants everyone who uses and reads the WG forums to be devoid of any and all Critical Thinking Skills. He recently clamped down on using more than two marked two's at a time for fear some flunky bank teller might get upset and complain. He attempts to put a guilt trip on everyone by using the logic "If someone complains to the Secret Service it could well be lights out for WheresGeorge." HELLO HANK, are you so densed to realize that this is not North Korea but the United States and the government can't/won't just shut down a website because people choose to independently mark their own bills? Someone by the name of Ryan2bills called out Hank on his irrationality but Hank never responded and the thread was locked soon afterwards. Like I say, he wants everyone who follows him to be devoid of using rationale, logic, common sense and Critical Thinking Skills. The sad thing is he has his cronies who follow him and treat him like a god. These followers won't hesitate to promulgate this mans rhetoric against anyone on the forum who attempts to think for themselves. If these Independent Thinkers don't comply they either end up getting banned under the guise of "rule breaking" ...

or stop participating in the forums.

It's truly amazing how adults on a website will often allow a webmaster to deal with them as though they are pre-pubescent grade schoolers. I always get a kick out of how they kowtow to the "Hank's site, Hank's rules!" mantra. Nothing like being led around by the nose!
