+96 Everyone should vote if you are an American citizen, its your patriotic duty and one of our rights. amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It's also our right not to vote

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's ok if they don't vote, but they shouldn't be complaining about their government.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Even if you hate both candidates (which I'm sure many people do this election) you still should have a say in who you'd rather run the country...except that awkward electoral college thing sorta screws that up since if you live, say, in Connecticut or Massachusetts voting for Romney is a wasted vote but a Texan voting for Obama is also a wasted vote.

Of you hate both candidates, you can just write that on your ballot. It's a wasted vote, but they still register the fact that a vote has been wasted. If everyone who doesn't vote because they don't like the system just wasted their ballot, it would be a lot of wasted ballots, and the electoral officials would register that something needs to change.

Every citizen including kids? If kids could vote America would be screwed :3

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Fairly certain they meant citizens past, oh I dunno, the voting age maybe?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I got confused, I thought OP meant that every citizen should be allowed to vote so..

by Anonymous 11 years ago

And why would America be screwed?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Cause kids wouldn't vote seriously, it would be like lucky dip for them like 'Yeeaaah my guy won! now give me that tamagotchi you owe me.'

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If anything kids would do better because they don't have a past bias towards one party. They might actually look in to who they're voting for. (Assuming they're not pressured by their parents.)

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Little kids definitely wouldn't :3

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I don't think you give children enough credit. We grow up curious. Constantly asking why and how. I think if given the chance they would do just as well, if not better, on picking a side in a presidential debate than ye average American.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What do I know, I'm English. Maybe American children are different but most of the kids I know would pick the shinier one. :/

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Are adults any different?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Sadly no..

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Kids would vote with their parents over 90% of the time. my elementary school had a fake election in 2000 (Bush vs Gore i believe?) and all my friends wanted to vote for Gore just because thats who their parents were voting for

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's me told then, but that's still not good, people should only vote if there is someone to vote for who they believe in, little kids shouldn't worry about politics, it's the only innocent time in their life so they shouldn't have a care in the world.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

it's their innocent time and they shouldn't have a care in the world? what dream world are you living in?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I don't mean they don't have cares I mean they shouldn't, little kids shouldn't have to wake up scared about how the day might turn out. I know some of them do, but they shouldn't.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

But most children DON't pay attention to politics, myself included, so if I DID have the oppurtunity to vote, I'd vote for whoever my parents told me to vote for. Your theory that children would do a better job than adults is ridculous.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

So, you're saying that the government should go to every kid and test their knowledge on politics before allowing them to vote? Government has no effect on children, because they don't pay bills or taxes, buy houses, etc. So why should they have a say? It's none of their business, they're children. Until they turn 18 and IT IS their business, they have no say, and I hope that's how it continues to be.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Because you said "kids who can form their own opinions" which made it sound as if you meant children nowadays. However, I do agree with you. They may start to have more of an interest in politics, but still shouldn't be allowed to vote.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That doesn't only apply to Americans.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

No. You should only vote if you are of voting age and sound mind, and have taken the time to look over the candidates and the issues and pick a side. You should NOT vote if you don't know anything about the candidates except for their names and which one your friends are all voting for.
