-54 When you think about it, the pledge is pretty fucking weird. It's like you're saying that you are going to do whatever you can to protect this inanimate object there are like millions of, most of which are made by the rival economic superpower. amirite?

How does the pledge imply protect the flag? All I get from is it that we are a united nation and I'm grateful I live a good life in a pretty good country.

"I pledge allegiance to the flag."

Allegiance doesn't mean protect, it means devotion/loyalty, and the flag is symbolic.

Yes, but symbols cause confusion over time. Wafers and wine at church were supposed to SYMBOLIZE Jesus' blood and body, yet now it is believed that it actually transforms into it. The language is extremely non-specific and makes it sound odd.

Everyone knows what it means, and besides that, it doesn't say to protect it even if you do think it's talking about the flag.

I get what you're saying. I've always thought it was silly to pledge allegiance to an inanimate object. I don't say the pledge, and people occasionally think its rude. I think it's wrong when people try to force others to say it. Especially children! I was forced to say it when I was younger. :b

Yeah, in my school, they can't force you to say it, but the teachers do force you to stand up, which is incredibly silly, because most people who don't say it are trying to make a point, so making them stand up doesn't make sense.

I actually had to say it in 6th grade because one of my teachers was in the military or something. He thought it was disrespectful not to say it. I told him it was against my religious beliefs but he didnt take me seriously. :b

The way the pledge was originally written makes so much more sense than the current version. Just say that from now on.

Saluting chairman mao: communist propaganda evil communism nazis Pledging your life to the flag: Nationalist and loyal

I always thought it was a little messed up that we make kids, who are too young to understand what they're saying, pledge their allegiance to the dirt where they were born

Metonymy. Look it up.
