-87 Dumbledore should haveve been replaced by Gandalf. Things would have been a lot different. I mean Dumbledore gets killed by a former side character, thus leaving harry without any guidance. However, Gandalf gets hit with a flaming whip, and falls down an endless mine shaft, while fighting a demon wreathed in fire, and still returns to life to give Frodo guidance. And if Gandalf were in charge of harry's quest 90% more people would have been stabbed. amirite?

Dumbledor kind of did guide Harry when they were in 'King's Cross'

after Harry was legally dead

Kind of funny actually. After Richard Harris died, they wanted Ian McKellen to play Dumbledore. Which would have been really cool if he had

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah but since Ian McKellen had already played Gandalf he didn't want to play such a similar role, and Richard Harris also called him a bad actor or something similar, so he didn't want to take the position of someone who had hated him.

Aw, really? :( I just knew that Ian McKellen didn't want to have to live up to a second legend or something along those lines

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Well that's also reasonable. Although Ian McKellen himself is somewhat legendary, haha.

Gandalf doesn't give Frodo any guidance whatsoever after Moria. He saves his ass with the eagles. That's it.

This is going to be voted down simply for the fact many users refuse to take their heads out of their Arse when it comes to Harry Potter

by Anonymous 11 years ago

No, it's going to be voted down because it's stupid. I'm guessing you haven't actually read the Harry Potter books. Falling down a mineshaft doesn't kill you unless you hit the ground, and Dumbledore could have defeated the balrog just as easily as Gandalf. The Avada Kedavra curse kills whatever it hits. Period. Gandalf included. And Dumbledore //wanted// Snape to kill him. You can't say that Gandalf is more powerful because Dumbledore's situation required him to kill himself.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Actually Avada Kedavra would not kill it. It takes multiple killing curses to kill things like giants or dragons, however, Dumbledore could definitely handle a daemon like that, and instead of just lying on a mountain slowly dying he would be able to apperate away. I do think that Dumbledore would have trouble preventing the daemon from crossing the bridge and would risk injuring everyone else. They should both just stay in there respective stories where they make sense.

I'm guessing you haven't read the Lord of the Rings books. Gandalf survived the fall, yes, but he did not survive the battle with the Balrog. He died and came back to life. Dumbledore only reappeared as a spirit to tell a story; Gandalf came back more powerful than ever and continued to kick ass.

@partinobodycular To be honest I only read the Fellowship, and I don't quite remember that part of the movie. Dumbledore didn't want to come back. Severus Snape, one of Voldemort's most devout death eaters, had successfully killed Dumbledore, the greatest wizard of all time, and (he thought) gained the loyalty of the Elder wand. What do you think would have happened to him if Dumbledore (or Gandalf in his place) turned out to still be alive? @Saigot I was talking about Dumbledore, not the balrog. The post suggests that surviving the balrog is harder than surviving the Avada Kedavra curse, and I was pointing out that if Dumbledore and Gandalf switched places the same thing would happen.

Gandolph did play as dumbledoor in Harry potter but he died bout the third movie so they changed him with a look-alike

by Anonymous 11 years ago

No... no. Ian McKellen played Gandalf and is still alive. Richard Harris played Dumbledore in the first two movies, but died in 2002 and was replaced by Michael Gambon.
