+137 I'm sick to death of infantile, non sequitur arguments in defense of Joe Paterno. Even a self-proclaimed "old world gentleman" has no right not to report a man raping a child to the appropriate authorities. Rape is instinctively abhorrent, and shame on anyone who makes excuses for him, amirite?

Well, only 3.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Which 3?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Infantile, sequitur, and abhorrent.

Non sequitur's sort of tough I guess

The endless outpouring of support and praise from numerous respected people and millions of others is evidence of the type of man he was. To erase that because of one instance is asinine. One decision, however good or bad, does not even begin to define a man. No human can say they have never made a mistake. Joe Paterno did make a horrible mistake in his life and he realized it before he passed. There was a villain and a victim in the tragedy that occurred at Penn State, but neither were Coach Paterno. What I do not understand is yours and many others' need to incessantly trod on his grave, especially when the wound of his loss is so fresh.

No matter how good of a person you are, a mistake as big as the one he made is unforgivable.

Who are you (or anyone) to decide what is forgivable and unforgivable? And how can that judgment be set in stone before all of the information comes out?

Joe Paterno reported the incident to the school. It's not his fault that they chose to do absolutely nothing with the information. As far as he knew, there could've been an investigation going on. It's not his fault there wasn't.

This is not the SAT's man....

Yes, what he did (or didn't do) was wrong, but I feel like the media was still too harsh on him. There were quite of few other people involved in this whole scandal, including the man who actually did the raping, but Paterno took all the heat from the press because he was the most well-known.
