+170 If you can buy cigarettes without them calling your parents, then you should be able to be absent from school without them calling your parents, amirite?

Buying cigarettes is legal, if you're above age. Skipping school is illegal.

I never said anything about 'skipping school.' I meant if an 18-year-old student doesn't feel well one morning, that student should be able to stay home from school, without the school calling his/her parents to inform them that their child didn't attend school today.

The only way I could see this being feasible is if the 18 year old HS student wasn't under the care of his parents. But if they are still considered your legal guardians and you live under their roof, then it is the obligation of the school to let them know.

If your parents sign a certain slip when you're 18 then you can sign yourself out of class. At least in california.

That's like my principal was just saying that since we were at the age that we could legally leave school, he was going to treat us like we were in the work-force. So, if we got into a fight at school he would expel us because if it happened at work they would fire us. He then told us that we were not to leave school at lunch time, and it was like, well if we were in the work force we could leave at lunch at come back.
