+263 It would be interesting to see how many people would still wanna be professional athletes if their salary was an average house and the basic necessities to live instead of millions of dollars, amirite?

I think that what the game in its most basic form is the reason I play sports. I love playing the game. It has great lessons and is fun to test. When you market it where you are paying millions of dollars and make sports a "business", it has potential to taint what the game stands for.

I would love to be a professional Soccer player because I love playing soccer; what job is better than that? The money is just an added bonus, and I would donate a lot anyways.

I feel it would decrease drastically. Since more people today play for the money than the genuine love for the sport, not many would be willing to put in the insane dedication and hardwork for the basic pay.

People would still play for the glory/fans most likely

There are a lot of sports where only around the best three athletes make a great deal of money. These also happen to be the sports with some of the most athletic people. It's sad how many sports and athletes are underappreciated.

What sports are you referring too?

Things that aren't "traditional" sports, alpine skiing (in america), swimming, triathletes, and other things like that.

I would say that women's soccer in the US is like this. They have a lot of great players, but a lot of them are paid less than 30k a year. You can't help but respect them for loving the game enough to play for that little.
