It's terrible. My teacher always chose the girl who was just learning to read in English for our Shakespeare quarter.

Perhaps they need the practice? I know if I was a non native English speaker in the United States I would want all the practice I could get before I graduate.

Shakespearean English is a struggle for most students. Its near impossible for her. (back in 2010, i can't say now)

Elizabethan is difficult for even native modern English speakers. I thought you were implying the literature he was reading was in the English we speak today. edit: Wait, I just read your entire post and now I understand.

My favorite part is when they can pronounce words like Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch but not words like street.

This kid's number 2 in the class but it takes him 15 minutes to read a page in a regular book.
